How can we get around corrupt scoring and judges?

It's hard to prove its genuine corruption. And they already sometimes have open scoring but to me that just ruins the fight a bit - I've seen fighters who find out they are 5 rounds ahead in the last 2 rounds or whatever just play it safe and go into defensive mode.

You need some sort of governing body that is not going to stand for it, currently judges can get away with bad scorecard after bad scorecard and nothing gets done about it. An independant sporting commision or something, that can review fights and suspend judges who consistently get it wrong, because the current authorities are not being hard enough on this issue.

I'm not sure how the logistics of it would work in practice though, but they need to do something because it's beyond a joke really and is really hurting the sport.

Maybe stricter guidelines on how a fight ought to be scored so its not so subjective? E.g. clean punches over workrate etc? How strict are the guidelines in place just now?

 

If the reffing is bad or judging shocking they should be shot.The threat of getting a pill to the back of the heed will make them think twice before taking bribes.In the case of females,a night in a locked room with Mike Tyson should do.No,scrub my last,that would encourage the hoes.

one idea i had was 5 judges with the 2 extreme scores binned off!!

im not sure if there is an answer or if corruption/bad decisions are any worse or better now than in years gone by?

 

Simple solution get Ian John-Lewis to ref all the big fights that dude is as straight as they come...

 

Thats not bad actually - but who would decide what the two 'extreme' scores were, and why they were extreme?

I think he means, the scorecards that are widest off the mark, so say you had for example 116 - 111, 115-112, 117-112, 118-110 and 114-115 something like that, you'd bin the last two, because out of the 4 other cards they all favoured one other fighter and the last 2 cards are the furthest out in comparison.

Could get tricky though in really competitive fights..

Round by round majority voting. If judge 1 and 2 score the round to fighter a, but judge 3 scores it to fighter b, fighter a gets the round.

For big fights/world title fights - pick a pool of 20 approved and possible judges who attend the venue on the night, and pick 3 of them immediately before the fight at random and put them in a room backstage where they watch the fight on a TV screen and cannot be affected by the crowd. Supervised by a commision representative.

This means if anybody is going to bribe the judges they need to bribe all 20 beforehand. Or rig the selection process.

 

There's nothing we can do because the promoters an the boards don't want it to end that's the whole reason it's there in the first place. The ideal solution would be that the board appoint other boxers who know what they are doing to score fights, they are already getting paid well and would know the feeling of being on the end of a crap decision. Then again I've seen some boxers score fights terribly.

How about the board sets up a live link to the boxing forums and we all vote for 3 good reliable posters to score the fight, open to abuse but can't see how the scorecards could be much more ridiculous than some of the current judges ones

Btw I realise that could never happen.
