You probably don't notice as much as I do (being Boxrec's recorder), on numerous occasions there's always one judge that sees the fight differently to the other 2. My guess is, he/she is sitting in dud spot...whereupon they can't get a clear view what landed or was blocked, when guys are constantly fighting on opposite side (on the ropes) with one or the other's back constantly blocking view. Therefore, what option do they have bar to resort to guesswork? I reckon they should move their butt around the ring after x amount of rounds...particularly title fight e.g. 4 rounder after 2 rounds, 6 rounder after 3, 8 & 10 after 4 & 12 after every 4
Imo all judges should be watching the fight backstage with tv monitors but no commentary that way they see all the action. I have always thought it stupid that they watch ringside or cageside in mma with a view that is often blocked.
I thought there were three judges all sat on different sides of the ring? If this is true then no way can one of the judges be constantly blocked from seeing the action, all three from time to time will be seeing the back of a head so I don't understand how only one can be singled out. Even so, if he is guessing then he'll likely be siding against the man on the ropes anyway, regardless of which fighter it is. I'd rather see judges interviewed or at least write a summary of the way they saw a fight. They could then be ranked depending on how their analysis compares with an independent commission/panel. Far too much administration/cost involved in that so it won't happen. Was just a thought.
Some judges will score differently just because they have a different idea of what effective aggression is. One might think throwing a lot of weak punches is worth giving them the round if they took stiff shots but not many. The two solutions are to go back to the brain damage days of boxing, or become a well rounded fighter.
Would be good for all judges, if both combatants moved & exchanged their punches center ring. Unfortunately, it's a rare occurrence, making scoring at times touch difficult
