Probably the minute he decided to seriously pursue boxing as a living. PED's of one sort or another have always had a role in sports and cheating, but the steroids, HGH, and such that most people associate with juicing have been around boxing for over 40 years. People would probably be surprised at which of their favorite fighters have been on something. It's a heck of a lot harder finding a world class athlete who isn't on something than one who is, but Evander was particularly ham-fisted and conspicuous in his methods.
Why single out Holy? All the known top fighters are using PEDs. Even the one guy who does all these tests to proof he doesn't use PEDs uses PEDs.
Alot may have been using, but I'll say this for Holyfield, he never refused a PED test. Mike Tyson insisted Holyfield take one before their rematch and Holyfield obliged.
are you trying to tell me all these athletes dont get their amazing stmina and physique from taking vitamins!!!!!!!!!hahahaha
You can get off steroids for quite awhile before a sporting event - for months - and keep the benefits that accrued when you took them. In fact, Victor Conte says performing while on Steroids is a losing proposition because steroids cause the muscles to retain water and thus they are slower - and the athlete has less power as a result. Check out what Victor Conte has to say about cheating the system: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azzhD2QJ8B0
The Evan fields thing is crazy Yes he was juicing And he fought dirty, but it is what it is Most guys were on it Tyson for sure Leonard in the haggler fight look juiced to the gills
When did bulk up the 2nd time? When he went from ~205 to ~215? I've always assumed his heart was a result of his use so one would assume he'd already started. I think Holy is the type of guy who would have tried being natural at first due to his stubborness\determination but after a certain point it must have dawned on him that someone at 205 just couldn't have stayed champ very long... I don't hold it against Holy as much as some others, (IF) he did it, it was to overcome to an impossible hurdle, to get a HW frame when you're a LHW-CW. If anything I think the way he's aged is an excellent advertisement for hormone replacement, that is not the body of a ~50 year old...
i believe that he started when he went up to Heavy. he lost his hair pretty quickly and started having heart problems. these are side affects of using. his whole career is tainted. and it's a damn shame because he gave boxing some great nights. but he did so while on performance enhancers.
I don't know, but the age at which he was having heart problems is young even for a coach potato eating chips all day, let alone a professional athlete. I like Holy. I think it's hard not to, but the evidence doesn't look good.
