Bute signed to fight Froch in Dec 2011. He lost his belt in May 2012.

Stevenson won the semi final eliminator in Feb 2012, 3 MONTHS after Bute signed for Froch.
Stevenson beat George for his mandate in October 2012, 6 MONTHS AFTER Froch won the title.

I hope you just got your facts mixed up.

Stevenson was NEVER Bute's mandatory. EVER:nono

i make no arguement on when bute signed his fight....all im saying is stevenson was ibf mando while bute held the belt!

if stevenson was ibf mando, and bute held the ibf belt....then i dont know how you have such comprehension problems...its pretty simple...

ya i agree that bute went and fought froch and lost his belt...but stevenson was ibf #1...mando...then froch chose other fights rather than stevenson....but since beating soe, stevenson was ibf mando!:deal

Stevenson only became IBF mando when he beat George. They had semi-eliminators, then George was the final eliminator. Bute had lost the belt by then.

Stevenson hype train is in overdrive. I'd be interested to see what happens tonight if Bellew is still in the fight after 6 rounds.

to my knowledge...adonis was ranked #2 ibf before the NOE fight...after he beat NOE he won the wbc silver and was also then ranked #1 ibf behind the title holder, making him mando...

i also dont understand why the announcers of espn would say at the beginning of the fight that if stevenson beats noe then he is mando for butes belt!

i do understand that bute lost the belt a month later or so...but i still dont see how that changes his ranking...

#1 doesn't make you mandatory. A mandatory is established by the organization based on time periods, mostly time elapsed since last mando defense. That's why some time passed after the Noe fight for the IBF to figure out timelines with the champ's defenses, hence George in a semi-eliminator and George-Stevenson in a final one.

I take it this is a wind up? Stevenson ducked Froch, he moved up to avoid fighting him.

    True facts.

Iceferg, you've been a member longer than me,so you may remember this. When Stevenson was Frochs mandatory, and he took the Kessler fight, and the one before, instead,I said I would like to see the Stevenson fight first. That was all. There was an absolute avalanche of people on here saying that fight made no sense and that it was a total mismatch.Froch would obliterate him.I was called, among other things, nuts. Most of them no longer come on here.Just wondered if you remember it?

Froch already beat the better Canadian-Hatian in Pascal, why would he have ducked the one who was already KO'd by a journeyman?

If anything, a stronger case could be made that Stevenson ducked Froch. He was the mandatory, he could've waited and had his shot instead of moving up to fight a Dawson who was coming of a stoppage loss in a lower weight class along with a well publicized KO by Miranda. And to back that up, Stevenson's already trying to slide out of a Kovalev fight.

You are probably right. I remember interviews with Yvon Michel and Stevenson prior the Froch vs Bute fight saying that the winner would have to fight Stevenson and both of them would probably refuse to fight him. The way they spoke though, it was like he was already mando and that Bute didn't want to fight Stevenson.
