Floyd Mayweather vs. Amir Khan speculation & discussion

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by IntentionalButt, Aug 14, 2011.

  1. Floyd chooses his fights based on how high his probability for victory is. The way this is determined is by analyzing the opposing fighters style, skills, and physical tool set. Should any fighter possess too much of an inherent threat against Mayweather's 0 he will not take the fight.

(Hatton) Ricky was too small, skill-less to compete with Mayweather. He also had a style that complemented him well.

(Cotto) Miguel was washed up at this point. His proceeding fight with Trout later that year proved this. In spite of all that he gave a Mayweather a very competitive fight. Manny was able to knock a prime 29 year old Cotto out in the 12th.

(Mosley) Mosley was way past his best and was losing to everyone at this point. Almost knocked Floyd out in the second round. Even though he come off a victory over Antonio Margarito, it was still after a 13 month layoff. Pacquiao dropped Shane in the third. If it wasn't for his back peddling he would have been knocked out sometime in the fight. He was basically in survival mode.

(De La Hoya) Past his prime, and almost beat Money in a very close fight. Pacquiao despite being a huge underdog with a size disadvantage knocked him out in the 8th while on the way there delivered hellacious punishment to Oscar.

(Ortiz) He had done nothing to earn a Mayweather shot. Beating Berto does not make someone a legitimate number one contender to face the P4P #1 in the world. More stringent competition on the part of Ortiz should have been mandatory in order to justify a shot at Floyd. Not much skill to his offence that would've troubled Floyd. Get's his **** pushed in by a natural 140 pound Lopez, whom a fringe contender like Maidana, and Canelo had a field day with.

(Guerrero) Same exact thing as Ortiz. Beating an over-hyped Berto with an inflated record should not guarantee someone such a lucrative payday over much more deserving opposition. There was nothing in this physical, or technical repertoire that would have presented Void with any decent competition. These types are ubiquitous in Floyd's resume.

(Canelo) Best achievements include beating a shot to hell 41 year old Mosley, a natural 140 pound Lopez, and a life and death skirmish with Trout. Not much hand speed, movement, or power (very overrated in this department). Style is not that of a pressure fighter, but that of a boxer. No one outboxes Mayweather period. Especially if they are not physically adequate enough to compete in this type of fight.

(Marquez) This is the personal favorite fighter of all Pacquiao detractors to use in any argument to give Floyd the advantage in a possible future clash between Pacman and Void. Marquez was depressingly undersized in this fight, cheated on the scales, and on top of that presents no stylistic problems to impose on Floyd. A mismatch in any intelligent boxing fans view. Note that Floyd and Juan are two different types of counter punchers. They present totally different scenarios in each fight, and comparing them in an attempt to try to gauge Pacquiao's effectiveness against Floyd is an exercise in fallacious thinking.
Here's why: Pacquiao (regardless of the blatantly criminal scorecards) beat Bradley with relative ease even though he was cruising by most of the rounds. But when
ever he laces up against Marquez he is always given his money's worth (even being knocked out on one occasion). Logic would have you convinced that Marquez would have destroyed Bradley without much trouble, but that is when buck stops. Bradley soundly out-boxed Marquez in their Pay-Per-View showdown, and won most of their exchanges. This series of fights proves that triangle theories are not to be put into use in an attempt to try to predict the outcome of a fight because some styles are contrasting to others so much, that they are a nightmare to deal with for certain people. Also take into consideration that Bradley himself is a very, strong, fast, athletic, and competent COUNTER PUNCHER. Manny has problems with one counter puncher (Marquez), but not another (Bradley), even though the latter is faster, and generally more athletic than the former and is more akin to Mayweather than Marquez ever will be.

With all this being said, it's pretty transparent to see as to why Mayweather is so hesitant to pursue a bout with Pacquiao. Pacquiao presents every possible challenge for Mayweather, whether it be stylistically, physically, or technically. Pacquiao has it all. The relentless pressure style of Pac coupled with the blistering speed, and punching power of Manny would probably be too much for Void to handle. He knows this, his handlers know this, but the only people who don't seem to know this are the *****'s which plague every boxing related forum with their ignorance and proclivity to fawn over what many rational people would consider a coward.

Are you *****'s really trying to convince me that Khan is more worthy, and deserving of a shot against Mayweather than Pacquiao is? Don't make me laugh.
Save it for someone that DKSAB!

Khan is the logical choice both from both entertainment and the money point of view. Agreed , Khan didn't earn the shot but it should be a fun fight to watch.

Its no big deal, nothing wrong with this fight. I can't stand fans who want to block a fight!

Its understandable though, because Mayweather will not fight 4 times an year, so fans want each fight to count most. Khan is a decent fight, not sure if he is training to shock the world or just to get a Mayday?

Even Khan's very own trainer says Khan is in for a rude awakening if he fights Floyd now. And WANTS Khan to fight more frequently against lower level competition to season him for such battles.

Yet all of his so called fans are calling for it? A fight that would make fun of the sport of boxing?

    I don't get this, I really don't.

Khan should be looking for Danny Garcia, and if not him, test the waters out at 147lbs and EARN his shot.

You'd hardly blame Khan for accepting the fight and the $$$.

Mayweather is the one responsible if this farce gets made.

A live body would help! Canvas Khan's last five fights wouldn't even make the glassed chinned ***** good enough for a domestic scrap. I mean I'd give a shot to Khabib before I'd give a shot to Khan. What's it based on? Even the casual fan thinks he's ****. He's not beaten anyone at all. He's last meaningful win was in 2011 against Judah and let's be fair, he's looked **** since and progressively shitter with each fight.

I guess, like Floyd himself, you may have people tune in to watch it to see Khan get sparked, but that's about it and most then will find ways to doing it other than paying...which of course I absolutely do not condone...The bottom line is, if the fight is going to be at 154lbs, then at least Khan has to beat Cotto, Alvarez or Trout before facing Floyd, at least. Personally, I think he has to beat Danny Garcia first. Floyd needs to be facing the best of the best and this fight is a joke, if Khan is the best of the best then he needs to beat the best, which he has far from done.

You're only as good as your last fight and in his last fight against an opponent I don't even think is in the top 50, he looked **** and was on his arse in the 4th. That says it all with regards to the idea that this clown deserves to face Floyd.

Noone. Floyd just faced Canelo at a weight he has no business at, he gets a pass for taking a big payday against an easier opponent now

lols at the best of this era (pac fighter of the decade hello) and prolly the best skilled ever.

skills = competition, period. no way around this.

he has not fought atg in his prime, that we know now, so his skills against prime atg is suspect at best.

im not even to comment about filipino fans except to say, most are bandwagon/casual fans. but there are serious boxing fans.

bandwagon fans behave accordingly, filipinos or otherwise, that is expected, no surprise there.
