Did you guys notice that Cotto seemed to feel bad for Gomez in the ring. there were many moments where cotto could have finished him off quickly. but i believe he either just wanted to ge tsome rounds in to showcase his skills or he didnt want to hurt him.

That thought did cross my mind. Cotto knew what he had in front of him and he could have inflicted some serious damage if he really wanted to. That was basically an assault in there tonight. Gomez is lucky Cotto took his foot off the pedal at the end.

What the hell was Cotto doing......... Suger Miguel Cotto ... LOLOL
But seriously he could have ended that in the first round. Cotto looked great but he wont be dancing when he faces Margarito. But I still got Miguel Cotto winning. One thing I was very impressed with was Cotto's amazing defence.

Round 5 Cotto seemed unwilling to hurt Gomez, Gomez punches weren't even hurting Cotto.

Gomez has a load of heart though.

Either that or maybe he just wanted to showcase more of his skill to the national audience ? It seems he made a point of showing how good of a defensive fighter he is too.

Thank god he did. After round 4 he seemed fine to just work on defense and punch only when it mattered.

    Cotto coulda killed Gomez.

What are you talking about?

Cotto attacked Gomez early . . . head and body . . . by the third round Gomez is all bruised up and ready for the picking. It's just a matter of time . . . that's why Cotto started pick his punches. No need to go wild.

I thought the same, but specially in the 5th rd. It seemed as if Cotto knew the fight was ready to be stopped and he almost seemed to take off that rd. He moved more and threw more jabs rather than power punches. I don't think he felt bad for him though, it was more of getting some rds in.

i dont think cotto felt bad for him at all... i think he just knew it was a easy nights work and treated him as such.

and in all honesty, sometimes its BETTER to be finished early then dragged along slowly. Gomez is lucky the dr stopped it because he would have been severely hospitalised.

He just toyed with him. He knew EXACTLY from the first minute that he's got the power and the skills to finish the fight when he wants... It's funny that he didn't go after the KO... he let the ringside doctor do his job... Why, I don't know...

Jeez, why are we being so humble in this thread? I hear Cotto shits out gold as well.

Yeesh!? How can anybody think that Cotto went easy on Gomez? Did you not see the guy's face afterward? I think that the truth, or at least closer to it, is what Kirk said, that Cotto did not feel anything for Gomez except a free ride. Real charity would have been a quick knock out to the body, not the amount of headhunting that he did.

At the end...yes he did. Its like he was really worried about hurting him. I noticed this too.

LOL. I'm just saying that I believe that Cotto could have finished him like i round 2 or 3. Cotto didnt appear to be eager to finish him off though. There were plenty opportunities for Cotto to really turn it on, but he chose not to. I'm not trying to say that Cotto wasnt hitting him any less hard.
