if 20m paid 2$, why not?

say 40m$/65$, how many ppv buys is that?

it is no longer jst the ppv buys but the total revenure accumulated.

that's the point of this card, that the sport is a global sport where the stream of revenue wouldnt only come from the u.s.

in this fight, pac cornered the whole philippine ppv stream.

for a country with a population of 100m+, if each pay 5cents, that's 5m$ virtually free.

we will never know how much revenue this fight generated in the philippines, not even arum because pac and his team has complete control over this.

 

Just anecdotal, but I could not find a single pub in my area that was showing the fight except maybe BWW chain. But they were too far, and it was snowing so I didnt even catch the fight. Canvassed a bunch of sports bars that were closer, not a single one had the fight.

A few years ago, a PAC fight would have been pretty easy to find showing.

Its pretty clear the bulk of this money for this fight was made from eastern market, not US.

 

movie houses my friend. a ticket costs 10-15$.

a modern movie house can accomodate up to 1000+ patrons.
then you can extrapolate how many movies houses and cities the philippines has.

this is outside of your normal home views and commercial views like a bar or a restaurant, a hotel or a condominium.

the whole philippines of 100m+ population stopped for 2 hrs jst to watch pacquiao. i think this is common knowledge by now. and it is not an exaggeration either.

when youre being accused of not paying 50m$ of back taxes for 2 yrs, and that is not his total earnings, but tax money only, obviously a percentage of his earnings, and not for his entire career, but a portion of it, you know something is up.

pacquiao would be so stupid to give up his control over philippine money, and that is to put it mildly.

just think about it.

shiming a nobody in pro boxing is getting paid half a million $ in his fights. its a testament to the power of his fan base.

and he is nowhere near the level of a pacquiao.

 

Not really interested in how many PPV's were sold , but actually how many people watched the fight.

I would imagine its more than all other fights combined this year.

Interesting. As I said, I figured most of the cash for this was from eastern market.. but I didnt know that people piled into movie houses and such.

I think it would be interesting to know how well boxing was catching on in China as well. Its clear Arum wants to make headway there, which is probably pretty smart. Even at $2 a pop, if you can get 10-20m people to pay thats good money.

Plus China has some demographic issues at the moment that I think might really be a catalyst for a sport like boxing to catch fire.

 

Arum had predicted Pac-Rios would do in the range of 700-800k, for it not to have been announced after two weeks means it did much less.

this is outside of pac's deal with tv/network operators in the phils.

to say that pac has monopoly on philippine boxing, is an understatement.

his promotional company where his boxers have always slots in the undercard not to mention merchandizing and so forth.

arum's 5$ ppv in china never materialized. they tried but it never take off.

he said, they try again the next time they go back in macau, or singapore this time around.


the company where i used to work, philippines gave them tax breaks for long periods, yrs in double figures.

whereas in china, u.s. companies would pay, would agree to technology transfers eventually just so they can setup shop there.

1.3b market is crazy. 1 city market can be the size of the whole north america.
