If someone desires a world title, why shouldn't they go and take it from the champion where they live? :huh

What stopped anyone? Please don't say fear of robbery...

Except for Marquez, how many controversial decisions can you recall John being the recipient of at home? :think

(note: Juarez I & II - if you even want to call them controversial, which is pushing it - both occurred in the United States...)

John's victory over Enoki (Top 5 at the time) occurred in Japan. So did the victories over Takemoto and Sato. John initially made his name in Austrailia by fighting an native Aussie, Tommy Browne. Not saying he was a road warrior along the lines of Brian Mitchell...but there have been worse cases of guys staying at home and feasting on home cooking.

Oh yeah that's fair enough, but who did he fight? Look at his record and look at who he could've fought at featherweight. That's my problem, because of where is is from/lives and he boxed out of there, which is fair enough, but the big match ups that we would've loved to have seen never got/get signed. His record is impressive but aside from JMM, Enoki, Piriyapinyo (another padded record boxer), ok and the two fights with Juarez but who else did he fight? Now who could he have fought, even today, if he was boxing out of America? Do you honestly think he would've kept that belt for as long if he wasn't boxing out of Asia/Australia?

You mention Piriyapinyo but not Yordan? :huh I rate most of John's victories ahead of Piriyapinyo. As you say, very padded record, and it's a bit disingenuous to claim that is among John's best W's.

Marquez, Enoki, Cino, Juarez, Gainer was still a somebody in '05...plus a host of B-level defenses. Not a bad reign, especially factoring in longevity. (counterbalancing lack of depth)

Tough to say, but a lot of the top featherweights were tied up with one another (Salido/JuanMa), just passing through the division (Gamboa) or marking time (GRJ). Given the guys he did face, he did better than I personally would have expected, given his lack of real power or blazing hand and foot speed.

Props to Vetyeka for solving a puzzle that had caused problems for a lot of good fighters.

Red Bull itself originated in Thailand

Then it went Europe, a Spaniard stole the formula from red bull and he is the one responsible for most the red bull copycats, Red Bull tried to sabotage the Plant. bit then decided to take the high road and grow some wings...the massive investment in youth paid off, now consumers are willing to pay 2x for the brand of exact same product

Other energy drinks also branched of the original Thai redbull , non made the success of Redbull itself

If there was no Thailand people will still be doing cocaine and coffee for pre-workouts

He beat Marquez. Nothing controversial about it.

Uhh, you may need a refresher on the definition of 'controversial', there, Hans.

I happen to believe it was a legitimately close bout and not a robbery having swung John's way...but the mere ongoing presence of so much controversy and debate leaving the boxing community fiercely divided years later by definition makes it controversial.

Taylor beat Hopkins fair and square twice IMO but neither Taylor vs. Hopkins I nor II can be said to have been anything but controversial...because they sparked a ****-ton of controversy.

At the very least, regardless of the RBR scoring, the point deductions were controversial.

I do strongly believe that most people who say it was a robbery did not even watch the fight. Bandwagon jumpers. :deal

Perhaps some. In the case of divac and other ride-or-die lifelong Dinamita supporters, however (among whose number I normally count myself...but I have no problem with that loss...) it can be chalked up more to rose colored glasses...or worm-at-the-bottom glasses. :yep :freddy

...and objective parties with no dog in the race might be influenced while checking it out by a) the Marquez sect's ongoing insistent claims of robbery giving them a preconceived notion and b) sympathizing with Marquez because of the reffing job.

Does this mean Vetyeka will be in the rankings on TBRB?
