The man has taken some big shots in many of his fights and it seems like if you don't get him outta there in round one, then it ain't happening. Even tonight against Tapia, he just seems to come out very poorly at the opening bell and needs time to get it going so I can see why Ishida caught him. Looking back now, I bet if they let James continue the fight he would have been eating shots like they were nothing and start going to work on Ishida.
He'd actually be a fight most of them probably want these days, as fights with each other can become snooze fests ala Trout-Lara. Some other guys at the top of the division- Mayweather, Molina, Ishe Smith, Andrade, Vanes, etc, any combination of them would be a hard fight for the casual fan to sit through. :-(dead
I saw Ishida knock Kirkland out in the very first round, then I watch Golovkin knock Ishida through the ropes and out cold in the 3rd round. I really hope to see Golovkin fight Kirkland...............
I don't think Kirkland's punch resistance is as bad as Delorme or Price but I don't know if jumping in the ring with Golovkin would be a wise decision at this point in time. If they do fight and Kirkland can make it to the middle rounds then his ability to take shots are definitely underrated. we'll see what happens.
It has nothing to do with Kirklands Chin. Anne Wolfe should be given all the credit. Her hardcore training methods makes fighters inhuman. Its not a coincidence that when Kirkland replaced her with Kenny Adams. He was knocked out by Ishida and when he brought her back he beat Angulo. I think more fighters should train with her.
Kirkland has a solid beard. He suffers from a cold chin to start. Once he takes a few shots and gets warmed up, he is good to go. If you are going to bet Kirkland it should be early with a monster shot or you better be able to box and move for 12. Kirkland has stamina for days with Wolfe in his corner. I agree that guys like Mayweather and Lara would win. Although I think Kirkland can reach Lara as did Angula. I would actually like to see that fight as Lara needs to continue to build his name and gain fans. Exciting fights is a way to do it.
I agree Wolfe is Kirklands best option, but she may not be for most fighters. As you mentioned her training methods are "inhuman" and many fighters won't be able to endure. Now if they have the same mindset as Kirkland well then Wolfe may be a good choice. Sometimes a fighter just meets the right trainer and it works like no other.
He was in terrible shape for Ishida he had fought 3 rounds in 2 years and wasnt with Wolfe, his chin isnt as bad as its made out to be
