Who is the biggest underachiever in boxing history?

There have been plenty of huge wastes throughout history for various reasons. Probably the biggest waste for not applying themselves is Riddick Bowe. He was a truly great/special fighter for ONE night in his career, the first Holy fight, and never really fought up quite to that level again because of his love for food.

To a lesser degree, you have Jose Luis Lopez, who was a big puncher with a great chin who put together some beautiful combos, but who liked to surf and smoke weed more than train.

Lopez was FAR more talented than bum ass Crapnelo for example.

i cant think of any others with the skill Bowe had that threw it away like him

Probably some kid we never even heard of, a guy who had the tools to be the next Mike Tyson who never found his Cus D'Amato, or one of the countless guys who took the life of crime instead of boxing in their youth.

 

Camacho was a great fighter and a HOF but, he could have been so much more. No way a Chavez should have beaten a Camacho. The partying, wildness, drug use, and lack of training, were the biggest factors in Camacho never achieving all that he was truly capable of. He had such an extraordinary talent that despite living anything but a monastic life style and abusing his body, he was able to get by on talent alone. Its mind blowing to think how much more he would have accomplished with a different approach to life and his craft.

Yet with a different approach, considering the incredible hand and foot speed, the chin, footwork, he would have been untouchable. He was ahead of his time. I think fans of today would have enjoyed him to a greater degree, and even as famous as he was that fame would have been greater today. The outrageous costumes, the flair and flamboyance pay big dividends in todays world. The old school demanded more substance from their fighters, and at times Camacho's antics weren't lways well received. today's public would eat that **** up and it would equal big money. How else do you explain a hoe like Kim Kardashian being so famous. Anyway that's my pick.
