    Slow? Sharp?

Is Moore the right fit for him?

Considering he was fighting an unheralded novice fighter in Lamar Russ, i wasn't too impressed with Macklin and thought he stuggled at times in a fight he won clearly but not convincingly enough to make a case that he will ever be a force in the Middleweight picture again.

Macklin is also lucky that the original and much better skilled opponent Willie Nelson hadn't pulled out as if he was facing Nelson he could well have picked up a loss.

I thought he looked alright against an akward opponent (very tall) ...seemed quite sharp/lively with plenty of movement although still seemed to get tagged quite easily.

I reckon Moore will do alright for him, knows his strengths and weaknesess, didnt hear much of his corner advice.

The Brit middleweight boys are just short of World level IMO...Barker did well to knick the IBF from Geale....

Definately money to be made fighting each other though...sounds like Lee / macklin could be next.

It certainly wasn't a performance to write home about workmanlike but clearly won on points.

Got the W & served the purpose of rebuilding a bit of confidence.

Macklin never seems to stick with any trainer for very long pretty sure it is a fight by fight basis with Jamie Moore.

3 full rounds in 20 months prior to that and a change in trainer definitely didn't help him though. I think he needs another tune up under Jamie before we will see what kind of future he has.

Looks like there is a good chance his next fight will be Lee in NYC March.

Other than the Irish angle - Which I don't buy for a second from Macklin - Lee will get steamrolled. He isn't good at all.

Murray vs Macklin is what NEEDS to happen! That would be a WAR!

Wasn't overly impressive although Russ was awkward at times, I'm not completely sold on Macklin.

I haven't seen all of the rounds, but he didn't impress me in the once I did see.
Russ was indeed very tall for a MW, and not as skinny as you would expect for a guy his size. He's the same size as my tiny brother and should weigh about the same. Still my brother is very skinny at 6'2"
So I suspect he's actually a LHW at fightnight

This is maybe going to sound silly, but Russ was Macklins best opponent at middleweight not for a world title. The lad had only 14 previous fights and fought well,so credit to him. Also to Macklin, who I thought boxed well against somebody who no doubt is far better than Martins next opponent.Matthew never was going to be a champion IMO but he can have good scraps with the latter and Lee,who is probably now nailed on for March.

only seen second half of fight and although Macklin cut the ring off pretty well the other kid (never seen him before) seemed far more gifted when he let his shot go...Macklin was pretty marked up too with at least 2 cuts but the commentators were saying it had been a one sided fight ,work that 1 out?
from what i saw, bang average....Murray is easily the best British middleweight

    Surely Macklin is?
I mean the BEST and most valid yardstick by which you can judge Murray-Macklin-Barker is Felix Sturm.
Macklin and Murray fought "the same" Sturm.
Murray clearly lost, and Macklin won, even Felix agrees. (forget judges here - Im talking about what actually happened)

Other things that underline Macklins superiority is his overall career cv.
Won British title by crushing ko.
Won european title by crushing ko....etc etc

So he was.Apparently a sparring patner of Golovkin. When asked if GGG had knocked him down he said no but he could have if he wanted to.Credit to Russ.Just imagine if he'd been a 14 fight Brit and thrown in with an equivalent American to Macklin.
