I get you, there's arguments for all the candidates; funnily enough I woulda put DSG above Bradley had it not been for later events. Provodnikov has later been proved to be a bigger win (if you agree that it was deserved) for Timmeh, and DSGs win over Zab may have lost a little of it's lustre.

I've argued against FMJ in the past cos....... well, everyone knew he was gonna beat Guerrero and 'Nelo (whose Trout win suddenly appears a whole lot less impressive) - but yeah, in the end they were top contenders. It's just kinda - we all know Floyd's capable of far more (although that shouldn't be held against him in this context).

Funnily enough, despite being a big GGG fan, I can't pick him for FOTY - despite the 4 big KO wins:- He is trumped on opponent calibre by both Kovalev and Stevenson who also have 4 KOs each.

I suppose a lot of it depends on just what you, as an individual, are looking for in FOTY, what you think it actually represents. I'm not quite sure what you mean by saying a fight is of 'higher significance' - perhaps that more people wanted to see it? Garcia - Matthysse was a hugely discussed and polarising fight in the world of boxing forums, but in the end was just a good title fight against a top contender- the prevalent hype (from the time) around Matthysse shoudln't IMO come into it, although I can understand the position that an impact on public impressions is also a factor in FOTY.

 

Haha...I see what you've done there, but nonetheless he ain't one of the nominees. Paulie probably doesn't get the respect he's earned tho, FWIW.
