Floyd Mayweather became number one P4p by not having career defining moments I don't even think that's possible....

I would go down the list of his career defining moments but there's no point he's the best and until somebody beats him no matter how much you love Cotto or want Cotto to be where Floyd is its just not to be

 

That fight can only be Cotto im afraid, as it looks. He has to do it.

 

Don't be ridiculous. When did Roy Jones Jr., Lennox Lewis or Bernard Hopkins have to reach down deeply to get a win? Furthermore, Floyd certainly had to dig down deep to pull out the win over Castillo. Mayweather/Cotto is a fight I badly want to see. However, Floyd has already proved himself. Whether or not this fight happens, he will still go down as an ATG.

 

I agree. Floyd may not need a career defining fight. His absurd skills and long career is enough to stamp him as an ATG. BUT A fight with Cotto WILL without a doubt be his career defining fight.

 

So if he beats Miguel soundly without "reaching deep", it wouldn't be career defining? Come on now.

Floyd's problem isn't that his fights haven't been career defining, it's that thus far, they have defined him as a safety -first boxer, a guy unwilling to take risks, and a guy more interested in money than building his historical significance within the sport.

These are the choices he's made. They've been wonderful for his bank account. They are slowly destroying his legacy as a fighter. That's pretty damned "defining" in my book.

 

For many people no matter who Floyd beats he'll have to beat more people and then more people after that. They just NEED to see Floyd lose. Simple as that.

But it doesnt matter. He has proven himself time and time again. He will beat any fighter you throw at him. As much as i hate that, its true! Hatton,Castillo2,Judah,Baldomir, Gatti, etc etc. His only real real close fights are DLH, and Castillo1. And I think a prime DLH absolutely murders Floyd.

 

A fighters resume defines his career. If a fighter has feasted on C grade fighters then his career can be defined as distinctly average. Considering Floyds resume, and the style of his wins its safe to say despite your opinion that Floyds career can be defined as that of an ATG.

Wow .. the posters on this site just keep gettin' more ridiculious as the days go by .... PBF/Cotto should happen in 2009, if May beats DLH, and Cotto beats Margarito this year ...

Assuming that happens (And it's never safe to assume in boxing), I still believe that if Floyd were to thrash Cotto he still wouldn't get the respect he deserves.
