Why I thought Broner had Floyd like skills, but I was wrong

He needs to go back to 140

 

I can't see why anyone still believed that.

It was already clear that he got a couple of gifts in the lower weightclasses to keep the hype going. And in those fights he had shown that there were multiple flaws and multiple ways to beat him.

Then the Malignaggy fight happened, and if people still believed he did improve a lot since the fights he should have lost that fight showed he obviously didn't.
Then there's the last option believing he just miscalculated the Paulie threat and also had to grow into the weight. Not being much bigger and stronger as his opponents anymore and had to adjust.

Or you just took all the signs together and figured Maidana was the strongest guy he had ever met in the ring and would have heaps of trouble even if he had improved after his earlier "should have been losses".

Therefor I predicted a Maidana win, and was somewhat surprised that so many still had fate in Broner. I even started to doubt my reasoning when I saw that almost everyone who KSAB over here picked Broner by easy UD.
It probably was the hype that made people believe Broner would be able to get past Marcos, or the lack of trust in the judges being on the level.

 

He fooled a lot of people into thinking he was a Floyd clone, but if you really break down his fighting style, he's nowhere near the fighter Floyd is.

He's not as accurate with his punching as FLoyd is, he doesn't possess a laser-like jab that FLoyd does, he doesn't have the lateral movement or footspeed that Mayweather has, and his version of the shoulder roll where he keeps his body more centered than Floyd and has a much wider-based gait makes him much more susceptible with getting hit.

From a far it looks like they have similar traits but when you really dissect their styles Broner is a VERY poor mans version of FLoyd Mayweather.

 

^^ I agree with that statement. I mean I don't want to be too critical of Adrien, he's still a top-flight talent, very young but his handlers need to bring him up a bit more slowly. He should've campaigned at 135 for at least another year after the DImarco fight and than make his way to 140 and attempt to beat the top guys there.

To thrust himself into 147 without even campaigning once at 140 was just foolish of Adrien and his management. He was able to eek out a win against Paulie but that's only because Paulie is featherfisted at 147, and 140 for that matter.

Floyd was a bigger talent than Adrien at 24 yet no one saw FLoyd jumping weight classes to fight people. Mayweather did it the right way, he went up each weight class, didn't skip a division and beat the top guys in each respective division (except I guess for 140 but that division wasn't littered with too much talent at that time.)

 

I was fooled at first when he was at 130, but I was not impressed with the Malignaggi victory and I also had the Maidana fight as a pick 'em fight. I also felt his move up through the weight classes was too fast. I mentioned in previous threads that I felt Broner was too flat footed, and in that respect was not like Mayweather who is more nimble on his feet. Not to mention Floyd has better footwork.

My father who is also an avid boxing fan thought Broner would "be on his bike against Maidana." But I questioned and said: "I do not know if he's capable of doing that. He's not as fleet of foot as Mayweather."

I really felt the Maidana fight was going to show me what Broner was made of. And I what I found out is Broner's arrogance inside the ring is a huge flaw, and the man needs to take his opponents more seriously. Watching him get thrown through the ropes by that left hook and the beating he sustained prior and after, I couldn't help but cheer for Maidana, for putting his fist in the mouth of somebody utterly disrespectful INSIDE THE RING. (Again, that really bothers me and I forgive a lot outside the ring. I do not look at athletes as role models.)

I would not describe Broner as a "hype job" like some may call him though. The man is obviously very talented. But if I could say one thing directly to Adrien it would be this: "I hope you learned a valuable lesson in humility. You learned it the hard way."

Great champions don't underestimate opponents in the ring. I guess I would say I felt Broner had "potential" to be a great fighter like Mayweather, but I saw many inside the ring flaws in Broner's character, not just his ability, that Mayweather doesn't have last night and in previous fights as well.

 

Broner need to go back and drive a cab.

Broner is a fraud that has been exposed :deal now that the jig is up folks are loving it when a guy who acts ghetto, and talks **** all the time finally gets his ass beat by a much superior fighter:deal

Keep your ****ing mouth shut, and maybe folks like me won't be so happy when someone beats the living **** out of you..

Broner dosen't seem that bright to beging with, when he can't fight anymore and blows all of his money, he will probaly be washing cars, or working as a bell man by the time he's 45....

The fact that Money May himself went out of his way to mentor and endorse this clown Broner (after Money beat Canelo he even said Broner is boxing's future) bamboozled a lot of the social media aged noobs to buy into him. But like Maidana said before the fight...Broner hadnt really been tested vs anyone remotely threatening yet.

 

Broner went up the easy way compared to Floyd, he's never really had a tough fight. Didn't know what to do once El Chino got his hands on him.

Floyd has fought everyone coming up.

 

Broner's defense was clearly full of deficiencies, and you could see this vs. Quintero, PDL, Rees, and Paulie. What it comes down to is whether you believed he was fighting down to the level of his non-punching opponents because they couldn't hurt him, and I'll never buy that. The guy is the definition of a poser, and hopefully now people will understand that it isn't Floyd's style that's so effective, it's his MASTERY of his style.
