he fought a few terrific punchers who couldn't seriously hurt him, but apart from that he could soak up lesser bombs endlessly without showing a hint of damage or loss of coordination. Watch his fights, he sits and soaks it up, then lashes right back out hard and accurate. only time I seen him really knocked badly down was when he was 2 weight classes weightdrained, totally disinterested and on the point of retirement. Needlesstosay he got straight back up even then!
Exactly. The guy got hit flush repeatedly by Benn bombs yet stayed upright. Bth have ATG chins, but Eubank has Simpsonesque skull depth.
These things are hard to pick. There's a lot of factors in a jab. For power it would be Lewis, for technique and culture it would be Conteh, for variety and persistence it would be Buchanan. Movement. Buchanan had outstanding movement. I cant think of many better. Maybe a few old timers. Power- It would be Wilde because he has the record and is considered a top 10 p4p puncher of all time. The best I've seen in extensive footage is Naz or Benn. Chin- Too many people pick Froch and Eubank when you have as good or even better in the likes of Buchanan, Lynch and Mcullough. I would pick Lynch. Heart/toughness/fighting spirit- Buchanan or Lynch without question for me. A lot of the younger guy's are picking Naz for movement but that was his downfall in the end. His footwork was actually very clumbsy. He used to fall all over the place when he missed a punch. He had freak reflexes that allowed him to throw and dodge punches from strange angles. He had freak natural gifts but no technique. He never learnt much fundamental skills because he could get by with his natural talent. When he stepped up and fought technical guy's he was found out. Haye is another uk guy with great natural talent but poor technical ability.
It certainly is some beard Froch possesses but there have been more impressive. You need to watch boxing from older/better era's to get where im coming from.
I suggest you re-read it... After Lewis, Bruno there is a 'Full Stop'. The next sentence starts with 'Chin' atsch
this - he really was about amazing reflexes and abnormal power. He obviously had great offensive skills too, but he never danced ..effectively... his was more showmanship and athleticism.
The people who picked Naz for movement and jab have no clue about boxing. As soon as Naz stepped up you could see major flaws in his technique including movement and jab. He was all over the place vs Kelly and Barrera. Barrera totally figured him out and had him on ***** street. Barrera had him stumbling and flopping about like a ******. Naz was exciting, explosive and powerful, thats the only attributes he had that were great. Technically he was a failure.
