What did Broner and his team think a fight with Maidana was going to be like?

I mean seriously. It was as if they had no plan A going in. Nor did they have a plan B or C. I guess they thought a 24 foot ring and Broner's style was enough. One of the worse preparations or fight strategies I have ever seen.

He figured he would show boat with some shoulder rolls and make him miss a few dozen times then Ricky Hatton him into the turn buckle, pop a champagne cork, and have *** with the Corona girls in Maidana's corner.

Let's be frank- Maidana isn't good.

They just found out the hard way that neither is Broner. (Which I was already well aware of)- I just didn't realize he wasn't good enough to even get within robbery distance of Maidana :lol:

That's exactly what they thought and that's why they paid the price.

Remember when Broner was sitting ringside at Peterson v Matthysse?
I wonder if he ever thought that could happen to him?

Surely boxing insiders within his team knew Broner couldn't hold Alexander's jockstrap. :patsch:lol::rofl

They thought Madaina would approach Broner cautiously, and that Broner would simply outbox him. Once he got nailed in the first round, the entire plan, if they in fact did have one, was out the window.

They thought that Maidana would fight him like he did Alexander, just follow him around and try to box, but Maidana has improved a lot since training with Garcia. Maidana was a madman, can box how, knows how to set up his power shots, has much better stamina, has a great jab, much better defense with an iron chin, etc. What a surprise of Broner. Even though Broner had the referee Cole trying to protecting him he still lose. Cole did keep Broner from getting knocked out though.......

I wondered the same, they seemed to have Maidana down as a Gavin Rees level opponent and seemed completely shocked to discover that he actually fights like...well...Marcos Maidana.

They fell into the delusion that Broner was actually as good or close to as good as Mayweather and could do what he does to a fighter of Maidana's level and ability. They saw a few similarities in Broner's style and ignored the differences and weaknesses.

They clearly had no game plan. Maidana was hitting him almost at will yet Broner was taking the fight to Maidana and walking into shots just so he could land his own. There was no adjustment or change in tactics. Nothing to prevent Maidana being able to get to him and so had to trade with Maidana which was never going to be a winning strategy.

They thought Broner could simply stand still like he usually does and slip and block shots then fire back and hit Maidana with enough authority to keep him from rushing in. They were clearly wrong, Maidana walked through everything and really was only slightly stunned once near the end.

I don't think they realised how one sided it would be, I reckon they thought it would be a close enough fight for them to be given another gift.
