Peterson defends in January and presumably the opponent has been carefully selected for his comeback. If he gets through unscathed he should be ready to defend again by April which should fit in with a Broner return. Broner is tall small for 147 and I suspect he will not make 135 again. You would not put him anywhere near Garcia. Provodnikov is too dangerous and is with TR. Therefore Peterson is the ideal opponent for Broner to show off and look good against. It would give him also the chance of a belt with a 4th organisation The IBF at his 4th weight.
The fight was fought at 141lbs a pound over the LWW division. Matthysse didn't want to fight for the IBF title and lose his WBC ranking and interim belt as he wanted to force a fight with Danny Garcia which obviously happened later in the year.
Aha thanks, amazing that's he's had the belt since dec 2011 and only defended it once.... And I'm struggling to believe Holt was his mandatory
The whole reign has been farcical. IIRC Judah was initially Peterson's mandatory after beating Paris but he headed in a different direction leaving Holt who beat Coleman in same time span in a position to contest title. Jean's a decent fighter from what i've seen.
Indeed, I actually think Broner vs Peterson would be a gd fight But would AB want to fight a pressure fighter with above average body work so soon after the Rene beating? Given their power is not in the same league I recon Peterson would use the same tactics he used against Khan which was quiet affective once he faught his way into the fight
There has a been a few incidents like this from the IBF in recent years which in my eyes make them lose credibility.... I think ud be hard pushed to find many fans not from D.C who would not take Petersons so called testosterone pellets as legitimately cheating yet he still has the belt, 2 years later with one defence.... Amazing
