He could win, but it would be difficult. He should start by working on a way to anticipate and neutralise Maidana's left hook. He got knocked down twice by that punch, and when he was hurt in one of the later rounds (he staggered a bit) I think it was from the left hook again, although I'd have to check. That punch was hell for him. I guess the worrying thing for Broner is that Maidana was hurting him repeatedly. In a rematch, he knows that Maidana can put him down or stagger him with just one shot, and he doesn't have the polished defence to deal with Maidana's constant attack for the full twelve rounds. He doesn't seem to clinch much, and he doesn't use much movement either, both things that could work against Maidana, and his low punch output isn't enough to discourage Maidana. It's not a good style match up for him.
Good for Maidana. He should negotiate a big payday for the rematch and do another number on Broner. That's better than him fighting someone else for less and getting outboxed, a very real possibility for him.
This would be great for Maidana - a good payday and even more adulation from the fans when he beats Broner easier than the first time. It would be interesting to see if Broner's delusions of grandeur were affected by another beating. As it happens, I doubt his team let him anywhere near Maidana again, especially in his next fight.
time'll tell but i think u just dont like Broner with that statement. So Now broner is even gonna more reckless and get KO in 6 when he just went 12?? could happen...yea but I doubt that. Broner just went the distance and was throwing down in the last round, meaning if he doesnt get knocked down early it could be very intresting. we shall see
This is bull****. You know if Broner wins, there will be no third match, even if it is a closely contested fight, that deserves a rematch, unlike the first one. Also, while I think Broner has a higher potential than Maidana, I think you might be selling Maidana short in insinuating that only Broner will make adjustments. However, it would not surprise me if Broner manages to get past Maidana this time. It's a gamble though because if Maidana manages to knock Broner out, how would Broner recover his career?
How about Broner actually beating a gatekeeper level fighter (or two) first? And by beating I don't mean like Ponce de Leon.. This guy didn't even deserve his first title shot at 147, and he was lucky to make it out of this fight standing.
why wouldnt there be a 3rd fight?? Im tried of folks saying this and that, like Golden Boy be watching there fighters. broner didnt even have to take the Maidana fight but he did! Canelo didnt have to take the Trout fight but he did! So enough with this assumption like Golden Boy doesnt want to match there fighters. if broner wins they would have to do a 3rd fight and everybody would watch and could be a top 5 most anticipated FOY.
No, there would be no 3rd fight. Maidana is not the star. Broner's career will likely be built on smoke and mirrors. Obviously his management feels Maidana is a winnable fight, and they feel it is imperative that Broner beats Maidana, so he can maintain his disgusting persona. If he beats Maidana in a close fight, especially if he manages to stay on his feet for the duration, Maidana will never and I mean at no time ever get a rematch. Then, it is likely his management will match him easier until they are confident he can beat some of the top guys.
Would rather see Maidana move on and fight someone he can get hungry for. He concurred Broner and he did so handily. As for Broner, if he wants back at Maidana again, he needs to build to where the public would want to see the matchup again. I as a boxing fan would not call off what I have to do on a Saturday night just to see a matchup that was handily won by Maidana. Broner would need to matchup and beat a fighter that beat Maidana for me to gain interest in the matchup again. Devon Alexander just lost to Porter, beat the man who shutout Maidana and he's back in business. There's Lamont Peterson who just lost to Mathysse. Either Alexander or Peterson who are B level fighters on the level of Maidana are the types that Broner has to prove himself against. I'd favor both at this point to beat Broner. Alexander, Peterson, Maidana, all a cut above Malignaggi and Reese, both who Broner was repeatedly tagged against and who he had trouble against. Beat any of those fighters I mentioned and Broner buys himself time still at the spotlight. He loses to them and his head is sunk in the toilet he's so infatuated with. :yep
