shoulder roll is a reflex based style. broner has none, he's also stupid, dropped his arms down when a left hook was coming.

Broner could have been much better if he had a high guard and just dodged

He tries so hard to shoulder roll it doesnt work naturally for him

That's why a big unconventional guy like Margarito posed so many problems for Mayweather. Because of the angles.

And Broner is good, but every style depends to a certain extent, footwork, and the type of opponent you're going against.

Mayorga was very good at penetrating that style as well, and he was considered unconventional.

well, broner's shell is mainly him putting up the shoulder as his guard and standing there absorbing punches with his shoulder and right hand, he rarely actually rolls with the shoulder or counter off of it. If you watch floyd's fight against canelo, he rarely goes into the shell without countering off of it. To use the philly shell, you gotta be able to anticipate the right hand coming and effectively counter off of it, you can't simply just sit there with the shell at all times and expect it to be an effective defense. what makes floyd's shoulder roll so effective is the fact that he controls distance and the angles of his opponent with his footwork so he is able to effectively anticipe and set up his opponent's shot coming to roll and counter. Broner does neither of that, he is too static with his feet and he expects sitting in his tight shell to be enough to defend against any incoming shots. So in shorts, no it does not reveal cracks in the shell, broner just didn't use it correctly

No. Broner revealed huge gaping holes in his rendition of the shell.

    Or Paul Williams

And manny is a natural southpaw

Unbeaten cotto at 140 was a serious threat to floyd aswell

Of course floyd was 'on vacation '

    Maidana is not "average".

You might see some of the same tactics used with success against someone like Floyd, but you'd need someone that much better than Maidana. Historically pressure fighters have been a lot more skilled than they are now.

He showed cracks in his shell. That bares no relation to Floyd Mayweathers shell though, if Maidana fought Floyd he wouldn't be landing those shots.

Not in the philly shell itself, he only showed cracks in his poor imitation. He also showed a few cracks in his glass chin.
