Calzaghe v Froch would have been precisely the same as Calzaghe Lacey - a brutal beatdown in favour of Calzaghe.

Calzaghe fairly shamelessly took the fights that would make him the most money at the end of his career, as although he had made good money... he had never made the kind of GREAT money a decade as world champion should have brought with it. Personally I'd have done the exact same thing. As for rematching Hopkins, I even saw him saying before the fight there would be no rematch regardless of the result as he didn't like Hopkins style and thought it would make for a **** fight the first time around, never mind the second.

 

I think Hopkins won. He landed better punches and showed Calzaghe up at times.

 

I thought at the time that Hopkins won the fight and Calzaghe won the boxing match. Forgetting the result I'd rather have felt like Hopkins after that fight.

 

GTFOH froch has a far better resume than joe as of now, ffs if you go through joe's career its pretty **** poor imo.

 

I have respect for Joe for bringing real world titles to Britain (eventually, albeit at the age of 34, some 3 years after Froch pulled it off, so Joe perhaps wasn't capable of doing what Froch definitely did).


but his resume is pretty poor for a title holder - defending a SMW title against a light middleweight journeyman (Evans) is shoddy beyond belief. Or against guys who were about to retire, and so many regionals. I can only count about 6 of his 21 defences that are acceptably world level, so Froch is already ahead of him in world title level fights.

That's doesn't mean Joe is bad, its just he was rarely tested - and whilst it might be true that he was rarely tested because of his limits, its quite possible that he had world class talents too given, for example, his Kessler win. Probably most accurate to say that HE DID have world class talents, but also some middling limitations too, and is a low level HOFer for using a backdoor to set a record (the largely inferior wbo defences he made).

The comment you responded to was about how Froch, in 2008, did not bring enough to the table to get a fight with Calzaghe ahead of Hopkins or Jones, and how Froch wasn't anywhere near ready to face him at that time. It had nothing to do with comparing the resumes of their whole careers against each other.

calzaghe showed he was the far fitter man, though its hardly a great claim to make over a 40something.

Its pretty obvious that had the fight happened 10 years earlier, Zages comparative loss of fitness edge over younger fully fit Bhop would have led to Joe losing his zero through being outboxed for far more than 5 rounds he was. But this time he scraped it, by the hair of his chinnychinchin. Its clear that Joe is the king of matchmaking.

Carl looks terrible against fast fighters. He wouldn't get any of the first 9 rounds against Joe and It's not as if Froch could KO Joe has a granite chin himself

 

Froch has no ambition of becoming a legend and testing himself in a higher weight class

 

im not joes biggest fan , but the man never lost , i thought reid deserved a rematch , and the hopkins fight was close , but people forget calzaghes pace and engine had hopkins feignin low blows like youve never seen before or after , and he never got the credit for tht win until hopkins schooled pavlik , as most thought bhop was done. his wins over byron mitchell , a prime sheika , an unknown sakio bika with 1 hand , and eubank , who despite maybe being shot , was 32 years old ! ... thats not including his more well known wins against kessler lacy etc , when defining legace , do you take a loss over a p4p top 3 as being better than whooping a few p4p top 10s (lacy, kessler,bhop )....... Froch should be kissing Calzaghes arse every time he met the fella because if a fighter of Joe Calzaghes calibre was indeed still fighting around 2009 Carl Froch wouldn't have had a look in @ the super six tourney that MADE him .
