Is it fair to say Rigondeaux's win over Donaire eclipses Mayweather's best win?

Rigo had kind of a huge handicap in his way to turning pro though. I think it is a reasonable way to compare the fighters. Age shouldn't come into it, Boxing is boxing

 

Mayweather won his first title at 18 fights against a superb champion in Hernandez. That's not too shabby considering Mayweather was only 20 years old. Rigondeaux was 33 and was mature in his mental game as well as his boxing game. It doesn't matter that he not "quote" a pro. He was a hard and seasoned fighter.

Donaire was the poster boy for hype, that fighter of the year came from beating 2 B level boxers and 2 that fighters that was shot to ****. It's 2014 can we stop with this.

 

Rigo's got the single best win in recent boxing history. I would rank that higher than any individual win of Floyd's.

One win doesn't make a resume (drives me nuts when fans imply that it does), and Floyd's early resume is underrated these days, but if we listed out all the wins of each guy, Rigo-Donaire would be at the top.

to think that rigo did it with only how many fights he had under his belt and for a fraction of a purse of floyd's, made the win twice as sweet.

 

...No way was Marquez' win over Pac even in the same ballpark. Marquez was getting beaten and bloodied before he caught Pac. Rigo schooled Donaire from the opening bell. Marquez was on his way to a definitive loss had he not caught Pac with that right. Pac got overly aggressive and gave away the fight. Donaire had no prayer the entire fight (unless he had caught Rigo like Marquez caught Pac).

 

Rigo beating Donaire doesn't compare to what Floyd's done at all, Donaire is good no doubt, But he needs a stationery target to look good just like Manny, As soon as someone slick gets in the ring there's big problems! Rigo made Donaire look like a novice, But u also seen how limited Donaire is as a boxer.

 

Rigo had the best decorated amateur background ever arguably, He's a young 30+ in boxing terms, He's a ring general just like Floyd... I wanna see Rigo fight a few of our guys we have here in Britain (i.e Quigg & Frampton) They would both go in as huge underdogs but they have power and good boxing brains, They would push him harder then anyone else in the division imo, Santa Cruz is good but he needs you to be stationary to be effective, Rigo would give him a masterclass.

 

Yes I think so, but that is a reflection on what an amazing win that was for Rigo rather than a reflection on what Mayweather hasn't done.

Beating somebody who was consensus between 3-5 on pound for pound lists everywhere in your 12th fight is pretty much as good as it gets. Rigondeaux's skill set is absolutely insane.

 

Lomachenko is the best decorated amateur, with the best record: 396-1 (the one loss was twice revenged). Rigo is definitely near the top, just behind Lomachenko, though.

P.S. Lomachenko and Rigo will probably fight within the next year, so that will be interesting to see who is the better pro.

 

Corrales is probably Floyd's best win, and he was definitely a top 5 P4P'er, more legitimately so than the likes of Mosley and Marquez, who really only found themselves ranked that highly based on one opponent.

But I would agree that Donaire was a better win than Corrales because Donaire was held in much higher regard and Rigo was a substantial underdog. That doesn't mean that Rigo >Mayweather, of course. A boxer is more than his best win. Floyd has a demonstrated track record that Rigo is still developing.

 

Floyd can move foreward and walk guys down..even bigger guys.

I have yet to see Rigo do that.
