I love the sweet science but to say MMA is only popular in North America is ignorant. Heard of a little place called Brazil?? Seems to be popular in Canada also, not sure about the UK market, any brits care to comment? How does the popularity of boxing compare to MMA in Asia? I know boxing is big in Asia but MMA seems just as big if not bigger, well atleast in the Pride days anyway.
There was PRIDE and now there's DREAM and DEEP, but kickboxing and plain old boxing are both probably still bigger in Japan than MMA. Brazil is probably the only Central or South American country where MMA is bigger (who was their last world class boxer? Acelino Freitas?) - it's doubtful any of the Spanish-speaking countries will ever make that shift like their Portuguese-speaking counterpart.
The Australian ("Impact") MMA promoter can't pay its fighters and this was interesting news also... http://www.cagepotato.com/exclusive-impact-fc-hasnt-paid-its-fighters-promoters-blame-each-other
Yup sounds about right for Dana as he did this same bull**** with Affliction and barred fighters from wearing their brands at his show. Henderson also left because Dana wouldnt let him promote his own line. Like i said the mans a ****. Seriously WTF is a new promotion like Impact going to do to the UFC?
Boxing is still bigger than the UFC in this country. All it takes is a few stars and boxing is mainstream again. If only David Haye would fight more often :-(
I don't think UFC is big at all here. In my social circle I don't know any hardcore boxing fans, but the majority of my mates could be called casual fans. I can't think of any of my mates who would say they dislike boxing On the other hand the only friend I've got who likes UFC got into it a couple of years ago as a fad, bought a couple of t shirts to look tougher than he is, but probably hasn't seen a live event in a year and certainly never talks about it. None of my other friends could even be called casual fans as far as I'm aware
Dana White showed himself to be a hypocrite when he didn't sign Ben Askren because of his boring style. Whether or not he's boring, he had the chance to bring one of the elite fighters to the UFC and he rejected the opportunity. He can say all he wants about big fights not being made in boxing but they are in the UFC, but in reality it's only the fights he wants to be made, the problem still exists when good fighters are signed to another organisation.
No wonder. That rolling around on the ground **** is BORING to watch. :tired Unlike the excitement of two guys duking it out in boxing match.:happy The sweet science RULES, and will always be around - long after Dana White and his little niche sport are just a memory.:yep
As a fan of MMA/UFC I can't stand Dana White..... Most non-casual fans such as myself aren't very big fans of him.
But where is boxing going ??? Is it growing? **** no. It's the same as it's been over the last 20 years. . I do believe that mma one day will be watched more than boxing.
Yeah, no ****. The sweet science is already wiping up the floor with this boring, roll-around-on-the ground garbage.:yep
Yeah, I know what you mean. I tried watching this **** a few times, and I couldn't believe how DULL it was. I can understand why some people might find it challenging to compete in, but why anybody would watch this crap, I'll never see. I'd rather watch paint dry, it's about as entertaining.
