How has Paul Mccloskey declined so much

    He looked like a good UK prospect when he was coming up, but then he found his level as a good European level fighter, he made Khan look like ****, and hes probably Khans 3rd or 4th best win LOL
    but in his last fight he looked awful
    even that bum darren hamilton would probably beat him
    how/why did he decline soo much?

    Well, he is a 34 year old south of middleweight. Hardly ideal conditions on paper to be popping fresh.

    The "cheated not defeated" brouhaha was probably the end of his prime. He still had a bit left shown against Prescott (close match, whatever you thought of the scoring) but as you say had found his level and since Prescott is no world-beater we can say neither was Dudey, at least post-Khan. The loss to Corley was only a minor shock, Chop is always class and game to spring an upset, and had loads more experience both mixing at high tier and facing down fellow southpaws than did McCloskey. Toss in a year plus of sitting around feeling sorry for himself as his outward personality makes him seem apt to, not refining his waning skills, and the ****-poor effort in the loss to Ryan is anything but alarming.

    he was an exceptional amateur, he even boxed at the commonwealth games, beat paul appleby, you should really check him out

    McCloskey turned down a fight with Lucas Matthysse last year after Hank Lundy withdrew (Lucas ended up fighting Mike Dallas instead) so he isn't THAT stupid haha

    Dude thought he was Ireland's answer to Sweet Pea.

    Come on mate, was Eamonn Magee at his best not at least 10 times better than McCloskey?

    McCloskey did have some very good performances though against Dean Harrison, Bazan, made Colin Lynes quit, and has beaten some good gatekeeper level fighters, but he hasn't looked sharp in years

    compare his performance against Lynes(in good form) to the performance against Corley or Ryan

    Hes a fighter that relied on his reflexes & the big fights didnt come until in his 30s.

    Good European level fighter but at a weight he was unlikely to pick up an easy world title.

    Paul was in my gym years ago and he was outstanding I really thought at that time he had the ability to go on and win a world title, he had a great coach in John Breen and everything seemed to be going well for him

    then he signed with a certain promoter who got him a fight against khan who could not lay a glove on him so nutted him and then he was left on the boxing scrap heap :yep
