oscar bonavena vs ken norton prime vs prime

Ringo was Ali's tuneup before Ali fought Frazier.

Oscar hurt Ali several times in the fight, and Ali had to stand over him illegally to knock him down for the 3rd time in the 15th round to get the tko win.

 

This would be a tough fight, but I think Norton's skills would win him rounds and ultimately a close decision.

 

One reason why Bonavena was such a problem was because he fought with no clearly predictable rhythm and purpose. He was wildly unpredictable on occasion and in his sheer awkwardness, he was capable of generating the momentum and leverager that he needed to get off some really hard shots. he could indeed hit, but he had a rather inefficient delivery system that kept him from getting his best shots off. I think he would have bulled about even Norton, as strong and awkward as he was...and would have even managed to deck Ken briefly on the way to a sloppy decision.a very close decision. This wouldn't have been a fat, sloppy, washed up Jerry Quarry that Norton would be fighting...Oscar would be too unpredictable.

 

They were supposed to meet early in 1976. Bonavena ended up facing a journeyman named Billy Joiner and was killed later in the year. I think Norton would have been too much for Ringo. It was only the most vicious of punchers who could knock out Kenny.

I agree with it all except perhaps the end. I think Norton was rugged enough to outbox Bonavena, although I wouldn't be surprised to see your ending; I just lean toward Norton with that jab and right uppercut and right hand landing enough to score points and keep Oscar off enough.

 

Oscar would bully Ken around the ring, and nullify the advantages Ken had against Ali, forcing a late round stoppage in the eighth round.

 

Bonavena was a hard puncher and extremely strong but not incredibly fast and a bit of a front runner .. while it is a tough fight I like Norton by a strong decision ..

 

Bonavena. Norton is just so overrated. Id pick Bonavena by a decision but wouldnt be surprised to see him stop Norton.

 

I like Oscar here, Norton would get backed up and hit I can see a stoppage for Oscar

I don't know Bonavena was dropped by Folley, and Ellis ,I think Norton hit as hard as those guys.I believe I'll go for Norton by dec.

 

Those fast, sharp hitters like Zora and Jimmy could nail Oscar with punches he didn't see and drop him. Norton wasn't that type of fighter. I think Bonavena taking it from hard hitters like Frazier and Lyle is more pertinent when discussing this fight. If Ringo could take it from those two then I don't see him getting hurt too badly from Norton. I like Bonavena by tko or decision. :smoke

 

Actually I think Norton was supposed to fight Oscar in March of 75 but Bonavena pulled out for some reason and Quarry was the last minute substitute. Not that it really means anything as Bonavena was well past prime at that point and Ken fought an aging, fried, Quarry.

Keep in mind that Frazier was a little 'green' in the first Oscar scrap and handled him pretty easily in the rematch.

 

As I understand it, that March 1975 fight was supposed to be Foreman - Bonavena. Then Foreman pulled out so it became Norton - Bonavena. Then Bonavena pulled out in early March and it became Norton - Jimmy Young. Somehow that didn't work out and Jerry Quarry stepped in to fight Norton on less than three weeks notice.

Ill take 73 Norton over Ringo any day!
