If you're claiming that Andre Ward is better boxer than Mayweather, you're wrong, but if you are claiming that his recent wins (names, at least) are better than Floyd's, you're right, at least that's how I see it.

They are both defensive minded boxers which is a good thing, although their styles are different. Also, there is a difference in the level of skill they demonstrate. While I believe that Andre Ward's jab is better than Floyd's, his movement, footwork, timing and counter-punching abilities are not on Floyd's level. They are both very accurate though. Ward has developed a style that suits him well, but that's far from being a suitable style against someone who would keep boxing you for 12 rounds without the need to get inside. So yes, in terms of skill, Andre Ward is not on the same level as Mayweather.

Now as for their opponents, since 2009, I didn't rate Floyd's choice opponents much. The Cotto fight was the only one that made sense to me, and maybe Shane Mosley. Not that I'm some big follower of Floyd's career, but those other guys just aren't something special for me. Yes, Marquez was also a fair name but he was outsized and the fight was a total mismatch. Even if they were the same size I'd see the same result considering Marquez' limited abilities to deal with boxers. So generally, I assume that Floyd had some fair wins recently, but nothing great.

As for Ward, he managed to get some quite big names on his resume. He got his name on the spot by defeating the champion Kessler (a win is a win, at least officially), and after that his Super 6 run was quite good. Not counting this last win of his in 2013, that was more like a tune-up fight after a big layoff. So overall, I rate his recent big wins higher than Floyd's. Of course, I'm not getting into their achievements, as Andre Ward basically achieved nothing prior to Super 6 tournament while Mayweather fought and defeated so many champions at various weights.

It's generally extremely difficult to measure boxers at different weight classes and determine who's better, therefore I never considered that "P4P" thing as something of any relevance or importance, especially the "P4P rankings" which is ridiculous in my opinion. But as for who is more skilled and better boxer, Mayweather is better than Andre Ward, and they are not on the same level in my opinion (although Floyd is not the #1 most skilled in the world either, but certainly superior to Ward from my point of view). Those were just my 2 cents.

Not sure how to rate the Mosley win though. Mosley was past it but still dangerous. In hindsight, Floyd doesn't seem to get overly much credit for it though.

 

Floyd is number 1 p4p, please people, just accept this

 

It's hard to rank the wins. I think it's pretty even overall with the edge going to Floyd. It's very debatable but mine would be something like this.

I love all this talk about Floyd fighting fighters not on his level.... That's because no one is on his level. Someone is going to have to get better at GBP, because the 2 most career defining fights left for him at WW are Manny and Timmy.


In a perfect world. Neither would resign with TR after this year and we would get Pac 5/2/2015 and Timmy 9/12/2015. They would be the last 2 of his fight deal.

 

What he did to donaire eclipses all of that. He schooled a prime donaire who had been mowing down his competition.
