Damn, Abel keeps it real in this interview. He also calls Peter Quillin a undercard fighter at best. Either way he beats this version of Martinez imo. 2-3 years ago, maybe not so much. A speed guy though is going to give GGG a hell of a hard time though.

    Martinez needs to retire

there is very little at MW, and GGG - ward has a much better ring to it than anyone GGG can face at MW

thought it was bad form that GGG wanted to talk up a Floyd fight, but says zero about ward, which is a much more realistic fight

Cuz they know they're going to get handled if the fight is made. Sergio was an awesome fighter, but he's way past his best, GGG KO's him.

Peter Quillin is a black American middleweight with a title belt and he fights out of NYC.
That should be easy mode, in terms of marketability for a fighter. Even more so if he speaks Spanish.
Why haven't GBP/Showtime put him in as a headliner yet? They'll tell you on twitter how Quillin is the best MW in the world. What's the hold up?
As for Sergio Martinez fighting Golovkin.
Sergio Martinez isn't getting in the ring with Golovkin until it's his absolute last option.
I understand why that's a smart business/safety move, but it doesn't mean that I have to like it. Golovkin beats any version of Sergio Martinez, IMO.

i'm not sure about 'any version' of Martinez, that's buying into the hype
but I agree with everything else you've said

Ward fans want Ward to fight Golovkin, then Alvarez, then Mikey Garcia, Ricardo Lopez to come out of retirement, but those fights have to happen in Ward's home town, with his personal referee, judges, boxing commission, commentators etc. It's time Ward quit running from Stevenson. Stevenson said he would fight Ward at 168, so what's the problem?! I do not hear of any Ward fan wanting Ward to fight Stevenson? Geeeeeeeee, I wonder why.........

I read a lot of comments saying that "prime" Martinez beats Golovkin. When exactly was Martinez "prime"?
It's not hype when it's the real deal.
The only fighter @160 that I would think about picking over GGG is a healthy Dmitry Pirog...maybe. Sadly, we'll probably never see a completely healthy version of Martinez or Pirog again.

prime Martinez at a guess would be 2010, when he beat pavlik and williams

you can't say "its not hype when its the real deal" for a fighter who hasn't fought anyone. i'm not saying I don't think GGG will take over at 160, i'm just saying good fighters always look great when they fight b-graders

When he beat 11 pounds heavier Kelly Pavlik (36-1-0) could be it.

What do you think is the reason for this? Why aren't fighters lining up to cash in on the hype? An "easy work" 400k+(?) paycheck and the chance to win a title belt on a major network with 1.x million viewers watching. Why aren't the "names" @160 as confident as people on forums?
Resumes don't get in the ring. Fighters get in the ring.

I had to ask on this forum to find out why golovkin hadn't fought anyone earlier in his career, but when someone told me he signed with felix sturm's promotional company I knew the rest

but now he's on HBO its a different playing field

geale gifted golovkin his belt after beating sturm and Sylvester in Germany, opting to fight mundine for big $$ in Australia (cant blame him for that)
since then, geale has been shown to be pretty ordinary by barker

Martinez, the golden goose and the true MW king, has been plagued by injuries, and needs to retire

there really isn't much more to talk about as to why golovkin hasn't got big fights. I don't think there are any at MW. the faster Martinez retires, the faster GGG can fight for the crown and then he'll be king

Why would Martinez fight Golovkin when he is coming off of surgery, layoff, a difficult fight, and a broken hand? They're trying to bit him but anyone that knows better knows that would be foolish. And GGG's team should want to fight a healthy Martinez; it'd be more difficult but a possible win would be given much more credit.
