After 10 years of his MW reign, he said: bring on the best available contender - who was probably the best U.S. prospect and an olimpian, so a REALLY tough prospect. He took on Jermain Taylor when he could've just retired or fight a bum!

This is something you rarely see in the sport.

He was a decent underdog against Tito and Tarver, but was clear favourite over Taylor both times. He was also favourite over Eastman, Hakkar, DLH and Robert Allen each of the 18 times he handpicked him.

I liked B-Hop comment at the end of countdown ....
" I was born underdog, I embraced the underdog.....didn't supposed to be here at age 43, didn't supposed to beat Trinidad, didn't supposed to beat Tarver........didn't supposed to beat Joe Calzaghe...."

Welcome to boxing. I see you are new to the sport.

He was an underdog against Tito, Tarver, Wright, Calzaghe, Jones and it was a slight favorite during the first Taylor fight...tho because of the way the first one ended, he was installed as a clear favorite in the second.

As for the dumb comments about Allen...if these boxrec warriors would get off the site for a second and actually look up WHY he had to fight him each time, they might learn a thing or three. Allen, was the number one contender by the IBF the first time they met...but the fight was ruled a NC because Hopkins was accidently pushed out of the ring by the ref and injured. Now, because of the NC....THERE WAS AN AUTOMATIC REMATCH!!!! That is TWO fights. By the time they fought again (which was THE SECOND TIME because of the first NC), Hopkins held the WBA, IBF and the WBC MW titles....and seeing as how Allen had not lost in 4 years, going 12-0-1 with 10 KOs leading up to that fight, he was installed as again the IBF mandatory. Meaning that if Hopkins had not fought him....HE LOSES HIS BELT AND HIS CHANCE AT TRUELY UNIFYING THE DIVISION!!!!

Also something noone wants to mention is...when you hold multiple belts, you have multiple mandatories. Again, meaning you fight them or you lose the belt (surprised that JOE CALZAGHE FANS OF ALL PEOPLE ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS FACT???? :hey ).

I can guarentee you people like the poster I quoted, who is scoffing at Hopkins only being an underdog 4 times in his last 11 fights (how many champions can say that???) had him losing to Tito before the fight because Tito was too powerful (and now he is too small), losing to Oscar because he is too skilled (now he is too small), losing to Eastman because he is too strong (now he is overrated), losing to Joppy because he is too skilled (now he is overrated), losing to Taylor both times (probably calls them CLEAR Taylor victories where Hopkins threw 5 punches a round...even tho most people feel he won both), losing to Tarver because he was too big and powerful (now Tarver is shot), losing to Wright because he is the P4P #3 fighter in the world and much too skilled (now he is blown up, old and shot) and OF COURSE losing to Calzaghe because he is too big, strong, fast, etc. Wonder what I will be typing in the ( ) when Hopkins pulls it out on Saturday???

    :huh
