Americans - why don't you get behind Tim Bradley more?

Because he's black and has no punching power.

Shane Mosley was the same nice guy, well spoken, all-american..also possessed elite hand speed and power...even had a win over DLH in their primes. He couldnt ever become an A-side attraction.

If he can't..bradley never will and thats ok.

Floyd didnt hit stardom till he was 30, he had the personality to capitalize on a DLH win even though he didnt have the style. That is very rare and says a lot about his showmanship and marketing outside the ring. And his ability to get people to buy the fight just to see him lose.

It's tough and damn near impossible for a black non-heavyweight to gain a following. And who knows if a HW actually could or not...

Mosley could have been a big star but he(or his team) lacked Floyd's cherry-picking skills. He fought some no names after his win over DLH and then goes and loses his 0 to Forrest.

Don't know that this accurately answers the OP's question but perhaps it is because he allegedly ducked Amir Khan, was stripped of his title (LWW), and then won a highly controversial bout vs Pacman. I was watching the match online and had Pac comfortably ahead on my card. Like everyone else. I was stunned at the decision.

After that, there was a hearing in which it was determined that Pac won because he landed more punches (esp power punches) but the decision was not overturned. As an old skool fisticmaniac, I always insist upon allowing an aggrieved boxer a rematch. While most boxers who lose decisions generally have no actual claim to a victory and whine to High Heaven out of self pity, Pac had a legitimate beef. On that basis he should have been given his rematch. Bradley never gave the popular Filipino one and perhaps that is why he isn't loved by the masses of American fisticmaniacs.

 

Because Bradley lost to Pac and Provodnikov, but was given a pure gift by his judges and his referee. Provodnikov knocked Bradley down early, Bradley was knocked down, got up and fell down again, it was a clear knock down, but Bradley's referee believed that the boxing fans are stupid as Hell! Provodnikov left Bradley on the canvas. Bradley had a hard time talking, was dizzy, etc., after that fight, but Bradley's judges gave him the fight, even after Provodnikov left Bradley on the canvas. Provodnikov won that fight..........

Pac beat the crap out of Bradley. Pac landed more punches and they were much harder. In one round where Pac landed 2 punches to Bradley's one, Bradley's biased judges still gave him that round! Something was fishy. One of the criminal judges who was interviewed on HBO resigned, Hell, he should have been suspended for life! Did Void tell his judges to score the fight for Bradley? I don't know, but I would not be surprised................whatever, I hope Pac rematches Bradley and knocks him out cold................

 

As has been said, the use of the head and holding is a turn off, but at least he's not as bad as Ward in that respect.

His style isn't bad, but he lacks power to really hurt his opponents. Usually he will get them based on an accumulation of punches.

After the Pac "win" I lost some respect for the guy, but I'm a bit more of a fan after the Provo fight. That was a really close fight, which I think could have gone either way. He should also give Pac a rematch and he might get more fans.

People still back Khan, Wlad, and Pac and they were all brutally ko'd. One was even ktfo for 3 cold minutes until he was awakened with smelling salts, lmao.

Bradley is not a "thug" or "arrogant" flashy person, so all that is left is that he's simply a black guy who beat Pacquiao. Why do people hate Bradley for the decision over Pacquiao, but not hate Pacquiao for the decision against Marquez? This is bullshyt and hypocrisy and prove that being a thug or arrogant black male or any of the other stupid excuses people hide behind to hate black US fighters is illegitimate because Bradley is none of those things but is still disliked. Pacquiao still walked around like a king after getting he gift against Marquez, it took him getting KO'd for some people to admit that he had ever lost to JMM.

The only black fighters who could get away with beating Pacquaio and still be liked would be one of the Cubans because foreign born black from the Spanish and creole islands like Cuban, Dominican Republic, Aruba, etc are not treated as black in the realm of sport and athletics though their counterparts who don't play sports are not privileged in society. Look at baseball, they say there are no blacks in MLB, MLB is super black but many black players strategically are not classified as such. But if you are black from the Carribean islands DR, PR, or Cuba and can hit a ball or pitch, or can box well, or can sing and dance then you can come to the US and be considered other than black by the media. But if a regular black from PR, DR, or Cuba immigrates to America to places like New York, Chicago, Philly etc where blacks from Latin America without any sport skill are often thrown into urban slums next to American blacks then he's just treated as one of the "niiggas" living in the hood by the media because he offers no entertainment or athletic value to society for them to overlook his blackness.

 

I think Bradley is liked, he just isnt known as much by casuals - other than the PAC controversy. Where I think the disliked perception comes from as much as anything is at one point people expected anyone who beat PAC, especially a US fighter to become a superstar themselves like PAC and FMJ who used ODH as a stepping stone. But thats not what happened, in large part of course due to the controversy. In part due to the response to the controversy - which was not to have an immediate rematch.

The lack of immediate rematch was Arums fault. Arum even kept him on ice for a while. Given some of Arums post fight comments, I think its safe to say he was rather peeved at Bradley.

Also, Bradley PPV numbers werent that bad really. People forget that FMJ did not always do huge numbers either. If he keeps winning his star will rise, if he dumped Arum it would probably rise faster. Bradley is a good guy and a good fighter, people are just trying to set unrealistic expectations on him. Just because he is not at Manny or Floyd level of marketability doesnt mean he doesnt have fans, or there are underlying race issues.

 

To me the biggest turn off is just his god aweful punching technique, its the same thing that made Calzaghe fights unwatcheble.
I can get over not having any power but it just hurts my eyes watching him.

I think this sums it up in a nutshell.If Bradley was British,he'd be a hero.He would also have fought Amir Khan,and more than likely beat him.
