:smoke They saved him ! End of the thread ! People are forgetting when LL fought Vitaly it was after big V had both rotater cuff and back surgery's ! LL was closer to his best then big V was . Ll would have also stepped into the ring with a fully prepped VLAD who has never come close to being out boxed . LL would never gotten out of round two if that had been the young VLAD tagging him instead of the post two major surgeries VITALY !

Lewis did admit that he avoided Corrie Sanders, he knew Sanders was very dangerous..........

he shoulda fought them both, as they each matched up well against him, in differing ways.

Wlad, at that time, was also not used to having to deal with a fighter as big as him with a longer reach and as good a jab, Wlad also had not got his footwork down at the time and was still unpolished and has never been challenged by a fighter of Lewis's level.

To paraphrase what Emanuel Steward said about them, Wlad may have more talent and be more powerful but Lewis is more explosive and has more variety. The young Wlad would be totally out of his depth against even the faded and half-assed Lewis of 2003.

Emanuel Steward never let a slick black boxer get in the ring with Lennox, hence Chris Byrd was completely ducked.

Chris Byrd was champion during Lennox's prime, and Lennox never wanted to fight him. He saw how Byrd embarrassed Vitali and thought he'd better avoid that speed demon.
