Kiko Martinez is going to defend his IBF jr FW title against Hozumi Hasegawa. The date and location of the fight is still not determined, but it's likely in March or April. I don't know if it will be on the US or Japan. :bbb Here's a legal link to watch a video of the Kiko vs Mathebula. It's not a good quality video, I'm sorry. http://www.espabox.com/?p=6515
Kiko is a fighter to be admired to be sure: always brings it to the ring and is in exciting fights, he was comeback of the year in 2013 imo.
Man, little keeks has been a busy little bee at the world level. This will make his 3rd fight in as many against world champion level fighters. Highly regarded contender jhonathan romero, former IBF 122 lb champ mathebula( who donaire didn't stop) and now a former 2 division world champ. HBO needs to get Keeks either Rigo or Donaire if he wins in Japan.
Kiko is a very exciting fighter. USTV should show his fights. They did show Kiko when he was supposed to lose, but USTV lost.........as Kiko won!!!
There is some credit due to kiko, yes. But there would be a lot more if he would rematch frampton (the real champ at the weight). Let's not forget that Carl has kod Kiko just before Kiko won the title. Kiko is getting little or no coverage in the English speaking parts of the world. His last fight in Spain did not even get TV coverage. Not even in Spain itself! Now it looks like he is fighting in Japan. Basically he and his management are avoiding Carl like the plague. He has gone from fighting an ancient South African, to fighting an ancient Jap. From a commercial standpoint it is hard to blame them, but as a fan it is sickening.
Kiko is a litle road warrior. He has fought everybody in their hometowns. I don't blame him on wanting to milk some money from his belt fighting an easier oponent. About Mathebula... he was the IBF mandatory, he was not a picking. If he fights Frampton again I think Frampton would win it, but I'd prefer if they fight in USA. If they fight in Belfast again it won't be fair for Kiko. Frampton is behaving like a *****. He should get over it and go out of Belfast to get his own belt as Kiko did.
De donde eres, Txomo? Sunny Spain, I'll bet. A bit "hola" from wet cold damp dreary Ireland to you! Very big of you to concede that Carl would probably win a rematch with Kiko. A lot of people would be blinded by nationalism and would not be prepared to concede that. Of course Kiko hits very hard and so you could never rule him out completely, but I agree Carl more than likely would win again. What you (and others) must understand is this: Carl has something unique going for him - massive home support. None of the other super bantams have this. These guys are road warriors out of necessity. They have to travel. Poor Kiko couldn't even get TV coverage in his home country!! This is a disgrace! Quigg has minimal home support in England, even Donnaire and Rigo don't seem to have a home base. In contrast Carl sells out the Odessy arena in Belfast no problem. It's an incredible cauldron of noise and emotion, an incredible experience. This is priceless. So he doesn't HAVE to travel. Both him and the opponent make more money in Belfast at least in terms of being guaranteed a gate of 9000! THAT is why it makes sense to hold his fight in Belfast, you follow?
Hi lencoreastside. Yes, I'm from Barcelona. Frampton is far better boxer than Kiko. If they fought ten times, Frampton would probably win nine of them. I see your point on doing the fight on Belfast because they can make good money there (boxing in Spain is almost dead because it has not support/coverage from TVs), but I think it would not be fair for Kiko. I'd prefer a rematch in USA in a HBO ppv undercard. Anyway it feels like Frampton is upset because the guy he beat got a titleshot and is going to make a second defense. Carl has just fought once after the Kiko fight, whilst he has fought three times and has signed another one for March or April. If I was him I would be butthurt. He is probably the second or third fighter of the division and neither of Rigo or Santacruz are going to go to Belfast to risk their belts for peanuts, so he should discuss with his manager about what to do with his career: A) fight an Euro in Belfast in March/April waiting for the IBF mandatory status to get the Kiko fight. B) superfight with Quigg to get his paper belt. Galahad would be an option too, but I think he was going to fight Sergio Prado. C) go to USA, fight four times in 2014 on FNF or undercards to get a money fight later. I think he will chose the first option. If he becames mandatory then he will get the fight, but if he does not fight the IBF could make mandatory Chris Avalos, Rey Vargas, Magdaleno, etc. Anyway, they are both young men. They have plenty time to make the rematch, but it won't be easy ehile Kiko has the belt and a lot of options to pick.
Good fight , but this is one of the only times since probably Hatton vs Pacquioa where the champion is a massive underdog.
