What's the deal with Aldo's two round gas tank?

The guy repeatedly starts gassing by the end of the second round. The Korean Zombie looked like he had just started to land some good shots, as Aldo was running on empty. He gassed against Edgar, and it could have cost him, if he had a different set of judges. If Mendes didn't have that brain fart at the end of the round, you wonder how that fight would have played out as well. The guy hasn't seemed able to go a hard five rounds since he has been in the UFC. He doesn't seem that big for the weight class. What gives?

Dude has only lost one fight, by submission, and has won every fight that went the distance. 4 of which were 5 rounders.

Issues?? Who gives a **** what issues he has. He has the belts. And that is the only issue that matters

I know he has only lost once, but compare him to other upper tier guys and he has to have some of the worst cardio in UFC. Compare his crispness from the first half of his fights to the second half. It is like night and day. He seemed to catch a huge break when Jung dislocated his shoulder. Jung had started to tatoo him, as Aldo was so gassed he was basically a flat footed target. He could not longer use his legs to get distance. In the second part of the Edgar fight, he was getting outworked. In the Hominick fight he gassed bad as well.

I haven't seen much of Lamas, but if Mendes or Edgar end up getting rematches, watch out. With his current cardio, the first fight that Aldo doesn't take the first two rounds, he won't win. Why I thought Pettis would be a really bad match up for him.

Aldo made a big surge when Jung's shoulder came out. Not the mark of a gassed fighter.

Hominick is a bad example. Aldo was being out struck, technically, in the middle rounds; and had to up his activity to defeat Hominick. Aldo defeated Hominick with extra effort.

Aldo has won all of his fights that have made it to the 3rd round, which is over a 1/3 of his fights.

I think his cardio issues are exaggerated. He does visibly and clearly slow down a bit in the 3rd and 4th rounds, but he is absolutely NOT "gassed" or badly fatigued like we've seen from others. He keeps his alertness and quickness, but his activity drops.

It kinda makes me think about that Faber fight. Where he had Faber beaten down, on one leg and didn't finish him. At the time I thought it was out of respect for Faber, being it was in his hometown, that he LET him finish the fight. But now, maybe he himself was just tired, and nobody realized it.

His issues are obviously not THAT bad. Edgar, who is undoubtedly one of the best conditioned athletes in the UFC couldn't inflict even a bruise on him in the 4th and 5th rounds. So, while he edged those rounds and Aldo lost them, he was still able to defend himself and threaten with attacks enough to avoid any punishment at all really. :deal

Off topic of stamina issues a bit. How awesome were Aldo's combinations in that fight, the lead left hook to the body, followed by the right leg kick he was landing over and over. Awesome. :deal

Actually, he's slowly growing out of the weightclass. It happens when you get older. He has asked Dana to move up, do some research, but Dana told him it wasn't time yet. He said he would fight Pettis at LW. Moron. :deal
