Do you agree or disagree with the BBBoC policies regarding the different organisations sanctioning titles? Besides their own they also allow and recognise some others but not all. They allow WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF World Championships. They allow British Masters and International Masters. They allow IBO APART from World. In the past they have allowed WBU, WBF and IBO World Championships that I know of, possibly others. What do you think about this? Are they spot on? Should they allow all and concern themselves with safety? Do they allow too many?
I think they allow too many area English/Scottish commonwealth British European then one of the main four belts is enough as it is fighters are winning international belts and not even proving there the best at British level
The BBB of C have no choice, a certain promoter threatened to set up a rival British Board so the BBB of C allowed WBA title fights in the early 80s. The same promoter then started legal proceedings when the Board refused to allow Terry Marsh fight for an IBF title; the Board once again backed down.
They do have a choice and they make use of it. If they simply had to allow all titles then WBU, WBF, IBO, IBA and GBC World could be contested on BBBoC shows - they can't as the board don't allow it.
The moment anyone threatens legal action the Board would back down. They have a terrible record when it comes to going to Court. For starters if it was not for Michael Watson choosing to accept a lesser payment for the BBB of C's liability in his career ending injury, they would of gone bust in that case. As I mentioned they already lost out twice to he who cannot be named in two cases in the 80s. If anyone thinks they can make money from these alphabet organizations in this Country, trust me, the BBB of C will not be a thought. Precedents have been set in the past, and even recently a BBB of C decision was ignored due to EU laws (Chisora/Haye)...
Why was that not the case when Martin Rogan wanted to box for the WBU Heavyweight Title? There are WBU (both versions) title fights going ahead in the UK this year but they are being licensed outside of the BBBoC.
Rogan's team did not take it to court. The same farce happened with Cooper not being allowed in the WBA Heavyweight tournament after Ali's retirement. Unless you are prepared to take legal action as Frank W did, you either have to abide by the BBB of C rulings or find another Board who will sanction the fight. The likes of Audley had no problem fighting for a WBF crown earlier on this Century. I am guessing Rogan's team figured the expense of potential legal proceedings offset the value of the title fight.
When Audley boxed for the WBF the WBF was recognised by the BBBoC. The board recognised the WBF at least as recently as 2007.
I did think that the BBBoC didn't allow WBA European Title fights so was surprised to see WBO Europeans being contested. Do you know if WBA Euros are recognised?
The fact that every boxer appears to be a "Champ" or they certainly call each other "Champ" tells you there are too many titles.
