Roy Jones Jr. should be a permanent commentator on HBO. Everyone else should be day-to-day. Neither Kellerman or the other idiot know **** about boxing.
Because he is a talking head who did what to get that gig on HBO? He may love boxing and all, but he is as biased as they come. I believe it was him who was on Judah's nuts and said he was the next Pernell Whitaker, but with power. Shows you how much he knows about boxing.
Did Ward come across really bad last night or something? I was watching SHO all night, never flipped over. Wont see the HBO bouts until they post them on GO. Usually when he calls a fight noone seems to notice or at least comment on it around here. Usually I also get an impression while watching a fight, that the ringside producers tell Ward to keep mostly quiet so Lampley and Kellerman can play motormouth. I dont dislike Lampley or Kellerman like some here do, but I also am not overly fond. Sometimes they make an otherwise boring fight a bit more interesting, sometimes they irritate me by distracting from the fight with obvious bad calls.
Yeah that's apparent since he won a olympic gold medal, won the super 6, cleaned out a entire division, fought the best in the division above and knocked him out. Yes, he just talks the talk.
Buncha Effin Douche$. what is wrong with Wards commentating. Ive listened to him a couple of times and hes an awesome commentator . Im just not into his style of fighting. This guy is shockingly articulate.
Stevenson / Kova are waiting for him at 175lb GGG is waiting for him at 160lb cut the talk ***** and step up out of jokeland and lets dance.:roflatsch Better still........... stay as a commentator because you would get KTFO.
He knows boxing and made some good observations. Id like Ward and Roy to call a fight together. HBO's commentary is better than Shotime's.
I like Ward but he is boring as a commentator hes almost like Reggie Miller when he calls basketball games, He just has a serious personality even when I meet dude it was the same thing well mannerd fella though I prefer RJJ
Like someone pointed out earlier, he has a smug demeanor about him and is pretty damn dull to listen to. Every fight we listen to, you can tell he takes big issue with HBO's emphasis on action over defense. He gets extremely defensive about it when the other announcers are critical of a fighter to who refuses to engage, and of course goes on a rant about how the art of boxing is beautiful even when it isn't offensive, and that the name of the game isn't about taking damage, etc. Of course he gets that way because that's exactly the philosophy he takes in the ring. Happens every damn time he's on there.
Dude....... Ward is okay. He has more between the ears than RJJ, and I haven't detected the smugness others have mentioned.
