Danny Garcia Set to Fight Mauricio Herrera March 15th!

Very happy to see this story released today! Mauricio Herrera is a favorite fighter of mine, for those of you who have not seen or heard of him, he is a very intelligent and courageous boxer with good inside skills. I would highly recommend checking out his excellent close win over the since proven Ruslan Provodnikov and his close and exciting fight against Mike Alvarado that was my foty for 2012. After fighting and beating two solid but journeyman level competition on FNF and an untelevised bout, I am very glad to see Mauricio getting his first title shot!

But how is he going to match up against Garcia, who is in my eyes the king of the 140lb division? Garcia is very well rounded, high level boxing skills, good chin, good power, high ring IQ, young and undefeated. I am thinking with the hype around Garcia and the losses on Herreras record, Garcia will likely be a heavy favorite, and for good reason. I would like to hear your opinions on this match up, does Herrera stand a chance in your eyes?

 

Of course I've seen the fight, and it was not that ridiculous, maybe you need to go watch the fight.

 

Thats about the reaction I was expecting, although Herrera has been on TV here in the states at least 3 or 4 times. I like and relate to Herrera, he started late and doesn't have 1 punch power or a 300 fight amateur career, but he has smarts and courage. He can be very elusive, frustrating, and has a lot of heart, he managed to pull out the 12 round decision against Provo with one eye busted from the 3rd on, and went to war for 10 rounds with Alvarado.
