All this B.S from the B.B.B of C that it's best to stop a fight one punch too early rather than one punch to late is wearing a bit thin as to whats actually going on here at the minute in Britain. Ian John Lewis is a brown envelope man... The same with Foster and O'Connor. This is just a week after the IBF publicly slate Howard Foster for his decision making in the Froch-Groves fight..
It is a problem in British boxing. The BBBoC need to realise that hiding behind the Watson tragedy (Barry Hearn's fault- the safety 'precautions' were criminal IMO) and realise that these stoppages are making the them a laughing stock.
Yes, 9 times out of 10 the British pundits will back up the refs. If they (and the BBBofC) don't admit that there is a problem, then how are things going to change? You can always say, "they have to make a split second decision", "they are the closest to the action" "they can look into their eyes", "it's better to stop it one punch too soon...", but if you ALWAYS make excuses for the refs, then you will just get one bad stoppage after another, which is what we actually have here in Britain. Much as I would like to blame Ian John Lewis for his utter incompetence, the people that really **** me off on this issue are the BBBofC and the TV pundits that will not even admit that something has gone wrong with British boxing. Yes, fighters should be protected... but not at the expense of what boxing should be-- a brutal combat sport.
Lewis is all over the place, he should have stopped the Briggs/Klitschko fight but allowed the one-sided beating to continue.
Monroe was not being hurt and the clueless feather fisted selby was quite likely tiring himself out, spraying leather everywhere. Bad stoppage IMO. Monroe was poor, but he should have been given more of a chance than that!
Imo, when you have a one-sided beating in a title fight, then let the corner pull their guy out. I don't think you can really blame a ref in that situation.
The only issue i have is the fact every one of these dubious stoppages are in favour of Hearn's figher. As far as i can recall ... not one Hearn fighter has been stopped premature by the likes of IJL.
He wasn't massively hurt but has been taking shots in the corner for a minute and barely sent anything back. Munroe has lost every minute of every round had been wobbled more than once Pointless lettings it carry on. When Selby looked to wave the ref in he still hand time to land his right Munroe was solo slow he just took it flush. Not that bad a stoppage really. Munroe was getting hit and wasn't going to turn the tide
Lets call this was it is, corruption. Unfortunately Britain is now no better than Germany for corrupt officiating and judging.
That is grasping at straws and not really that dubious considering McCloskey had taken a big right and his legs went to jelly for a while and basically stared into space for about 5 seconds .. He would not have lasted much longer had that fight continued. In my humble opinion of course.
