Unimpressed by Joe Louis's skills? Baffled by Sugar Ray Leonard's high ranking? Bored to tears by Henry Armstrong? Convinced that Jack Johnson was basically a con job? Not a Calzaghe fan?

    Well, here's your chance.

Which fighter do you rate lowest compared to knowledgeable boxing fans' consensus?

Bonus points for a detailed explanation.

Jack Dempsey. I think he shared his era with three heavyweights that might have beaten him, Wills, Greb and Tunney and he fought only one of them and he went 0-2 (past prime).

I don't think very much of his resume, though I do think it was better than I originally credited him for it. I also think he's great, but I group him in hte bottom clutch of great fighters, nowhere near the top. So along with Jefrries, Wills who he shared that era with, Wladimir Klitschko and so forth.

Tony Tubbs. Was he any better than James quick Tillis? I don't think so.

A good flashy fighter but the kind of guy who went to sleep and often fought only hard enough so as not to be out done. It's not world domination and all he did was edge Page and stretch Bowe (who is also over rated). That's it.

Yes, I also think Liston is great but not so great as you do. Sonny is more #14 than #4 but it's still a great fighter what ever way round you look at it.

Dempsey could have fought Greb and should have fought wills but I don't think it's so outrageous as to exclude him from a top ten ranking. For impact on boxing history alone he has to be there.

Fritzie Zivic! The general consensus here on Classic is that he would spank Mayweather quite severely - which I don't agree with!

The Larry Holmes revisionists never really carried me with them!

I think that he was underrated for a reason!

Finally I get to say it!!

JACK JOHNSON!!! I understand what he stands for and what his legacy stood for but I believe most of his bests feats were outside of the ring. Marrying a white woman moving into an all white neighborhood, dressing the way he did and the way he would taunt everyone! Im not a racist so please dont misunderstand I admire the man for his accomplishments but as far as boxing goes he was garbage! Hands never higher than his belt line always smiling and swinging wildly,( Sloppy) looked to me like he was never taking boxing seriously, He is hands down the AT most overrated fighter in history. He was big and strong and his opponents were as big of a joke as he was. Put him in a time capsule and fast forward 20 0r even 30 years and we would have never even heard his name! Hes just rewarded for being in the right place at the right time no more no less!

His reign was horrible but even his rise through the ranks after getting cold ****ed in one by Flynn is padded with has beens and no hopers.

Let's have a look see at the numbers behind this run, starting after Dempsey was KO'd by Jim Flynn (who was coming off 5 straight losses) and losing in 4 to fistic artist Willie Meehan. I'm sticking to the blowouts that built his legend and allowed him to compile the 1st round KO stat that is so oft repeated.

Al Norton KO1. Norton had won 1 fight in his last 6.
Miller KO 1. 4 losses in previous 6 fights.
Flynn again. 5 losses in previous 6.
Saddy KO 1. 1 fight veteran.
    Riley KO 1. 0-3 record
    Ketchell KO2. 0-4 record
Pelkey KO1. Name fighter but had 4 losses in his last 6.
    McCarthey KO1. 0-1 record
Porky Flynn KO1. Lost previous 9 fights.
Fulton KO1. A QUALITY WIN. PERHAPS THE BEST OF HIS CAREER.
    Moran KO1. 3-6 record, lost previous 3.
Carl Morris KO1. Another name fighter, but one who had lost 4 of his previous 6.
Gunboat Smith KO1. Another name fighter, but one who had not gotten a victory in 8 fights.
McGuire, Hurley and Harris. All KO1. Combined record of 0-2.

Back then, whenever a boxing match took place, the first thing they did was register it on Boxrec!

Boxrec is a full and accurate representation of fighters records from the period!

Oh, and sarcasm is a very high form of wit!

OK, I guess you are prepared to list all the missing important KO victims during this time period... as if the existing record were somehow unfairly representative of his accomplishments during his run to the title. I'm sure there is a missing Johnson or Langford KO....

    Ray Leonard.

His best wins were Benitez and Hearns 1.

His cherry picking and trying to always get an advantage in negotiations, ( ring size, Glove size) and waiting till his opponents aged irritate me.

He has great names on his resume, but it seems we always have to put an asterisk on his wins. He got a gift in Hearns 2 and was losing in Hearns 1.

I cant rate him very high ,because of his tactics out of the ring that always made the fight something that played to his advantages. There never seemed to be a level playing field when it comes to Leonard. His resume looks great but is to tainted in my view.

I will also predict his status will LOWER as time goes on from were it stands today.

Not in the top 30 of atg fighters as many have him.

Can't think of many notable retired fighters really.A sensible consensus is usually reached for most.

It usually tends to be someone currently active\recently retired i'll feel is getting too much credit before it's due\still being highly rated despite looking faded etc

Recent examples were the attempts to rank the post-hopkins middleweight champs like Pavlik, Taylor and Martinez as greats\potential greats on here....i don't feel they ever showed that kind of ability and was proven right on the first two especially.

The overhyping\overestimating of Mayweather and Pac above 140, and to a lesser extent Marquez

DLH, Hopkins, Mosley all still being rated by many posters(especially in general) as excellent fighters when they were to my eyes noticeably declined.Hopkins at least did have some undeniably impressive accomplishments considering his age, though not enough mention was made for my liking of the low quality of his fights and opposition while doing it.
