http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs...ercard-why-pacquiao-bradley-ii-110454752.html In this Yahoo article, Bob Arum talks about how most people do not care about undercard fights for PPV events. He goes on and says he's been in the business long enough to know how everything works. What do you guys think? Do you think Arum is right, or do you think he is just being a cheap ****?
He's right, most people don't care about the undercards. However, if you start putting on better undercards and really pushing those fights, your guys will get more exposure and people will care more about those fights.
He is a greedy old leech. Undercard was the best part of Mayweather-Canelo, and those are TOP names on the very Acme of their game.
Yup an old fossil on his way out Golden boy PPVs do better #s because they stack cards in an attempt to break records & truly get behind and promote their up & coming stars.
I care about the undercard fights!!! That shows how out of touch Arum really is with the fans view. I have seen some really bad undercards, really boring............I hate promoters, they are destroying boxing..........
Arum is right, the casual fan cares nothing about undercard fights. However, Arum must realize that out of those undercard fights grow future PPV stars. I do miss Don King promoted cards. Back in those days Julio Cesar Chavez PPV's were stacked with fights that included Azumah Nelson, Felix Trinidad, Finito Lopez, and others. Fight cards are no longer put together that way.
Floyds last 2 PPV had good matchups on them including Ponce-Mares and garcia-Matthysse. Exciting fights that people wanted to see. Of course you had the likes of Molina-Smith but even those were compelling fights.
Boxing fans do, casual fans don't. You can sell a PPV to casuals on the basis of one star and a good opponent.
Perfect case of an old guy on the way out who figures it's better to maximize his earnings today and to hell with the long run. If he's only around for a couple more years, what difference does it make to him? Putting on great undercards strengthens your stable by building future stars. Putting the cheapest undercards on you can to maximize your profits is shortsighted. Considering his age, I'm not surprised that's the route he's going.
