Alright this isn't really a discussion thread, but did you know a famous pro boxer? Also did he or she teach you how to box? Plus did they try to get you to join the boxing game?
Shannon Briggs is a friend of my Uncle Ricky who lives in Brooklyn still. I met him and know him fairly well. Last time I saw him was at a BBQ in 2011 that we had on memorial day. He's a good person, told me to never box. and to watch my money closely if I ever become successful.
He was saying don't do it if you don't love it. A lot of people do boxing, just to make it out, and then they create lifestyles for themselves that they can only maintain if they continue to box. You don't wanna be forced to do something you dont particularly love just to get a paycheck. he said that there are guys who box well beyond their primes, not because they love it, but just because they create lifestyles that they have to keep up with, and boxing becomes their only checks. And in turn you end up taking punches and damage for paychecks. Not for the love and not for the glory. That and its terribly violent. And not everyone is cut out for it. Told me to stay and school, and asked how my mom was doing. Back in 2011.
I joined boxing by myself, but i was motivated by my brother and dad being too into it, and i realized it was also in me. I currently fight amateur fights but i'm planning to go pro this year or next one.
My old man is friends with former Pro Miguel Mathews, whilst not exactly famous he has a pretty interesting record. Holds a win over Scott Harrison who later went onto win the WBO Featherweight belt and fought ATG Prince Naseem Hamed and retired with a record of 15-84-11 (4ko wins, 8 ko losses and 110 fights in total). I used to box Amateur but in all honesty the gym i trained at had their favourites for sparring meaning i only had 2/3 sparring matches and not surprisingly no actual fights because of this and the club being run very poorly to the point where its been taken over by the MMA boys who I trained with But been meaning to start back now that ive moved back to the city, Just need to organize my time better between University and Work but can not wait to get back in the ring (Also did train in the adult club for a little while so had some good sparring with some of the bigger lads in their 30's)
I used to work out in Houston so my path crossed with many famous boxers. I used to see Holy in the gym all the time but I never really talked to him because he was pretty much all business in there.
