24 years ago today, James "Buster" Douglas scored one of the biggest upsets in the history of boxing, by knocking out previously undefeated Mike Tyson, and becoming the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World.

I was only a year-and-a-half when this fight took place, but I still remember where I was when this happened, even if I was too young to understand the significance of what was going on.

The only thing I could understand was the announcement that changed the boxing world forever: "This fight has been stopped with 1 minute and 23 seconds of round 10. To the winner by the way of knockout, and NEW Heavyweight Champion of the World... James "Buster" Douglas!"

Trust me, I have come across Bradley fans on here that admitted that the first fight they watched was the Bradley-Pacquiao fight in June 2012. If you mentioned the Tyson-Douglas fight to them, most of them probably have no idea what you are talking about, lol :)

I don't think that there could possibly ever be a more shocking upset

I really do not know why so many fans considered it a shocking upset. I remember when I was sitting down watching the fights with my dad and a bunch of old-timers. we started talking about tyson and how he was getting ready to implode. His life out of the ring was a f'n mess and he was starting to come undone since the death of Cus. Tyson was an accident waiting to happen. That all said Buster fought one of the best fights I have seen since Holmes that night . . . he surely raised his game that night. Truly a masterful perfomance

i am a huge tyson fan and that loss rocked me to my core. when i saw him standing there and not moving his head and getting hit flush in the face, i knew he was doomed

If you followed the lifestyles of the 2 fighters at the time it was less shocking. As someone mentioned, Tyson was messed up and a one punch wonder, while Buster...normally a lazy mofo with talent saw this as his one shot, stayed motivated the whole camp and voila!

Next fight against Evander, fat slob Buster showed up.

Douglas at his best, and Tyson at his worst. Flip the script and you have Tyson as the winner... The way boxing is sometimes.

Surely Tyson when he fought Kevin McBride was when he was at his worst?

thats not what I said . . . and if you knew anything about boxing you would never say something like that. I was never a fan of Mikes but the guy had the goods but he quickly crashed and burned like the brightest lights often do

In his book Mike claims he did not train for the fight, and that the day before the fight he banged two Japanese hotel maids in the morning, and then went out and banged two other Japanese women that night.

He said the hotel maids would bring their female friends to him for s*x, and Mike would bang them too.

What??? Mike WAS messed up and he was one- punching almost all night. Go back and watch the fight..he hardly ever threw body shots. I dare u to count how many 3 or more punch combos he throws in that fight. He wrestled and one punched the whole fight. Buster boxed his ass off and Tyson was mentally absent. Look at his body language between rounds.
