I'm sorry but the more i watch Calzaghe, the more i see weaknesses.

I honestly don't think fighting in Vegas will do much to throw Calzaghe off his game. He's a professional with loads of experience and a relaxed demeanor.

I'd be shocked if the venue did anything to throw him off.

I do, however, believe that having been a largey protected commodity throughout his career, he may be in for a surprise when it comes to just how crafty Hopkins actually is.

check out the eubank, reid, woodhall and veit fights.

secondly, hostile atmosphere in vegas? do me a favour. the yanks couldn't create a hostile atmosphere at a sporting event if their lives depended on it.

I just see Hopkins landing a bunch of lead right hands down the pipe in this one. That doesn't mean that i think Hopkins will win. Calzaghe has never faced a guy as skilled as Hopkins who is able to exploit weaknesses that others Calzaghe has faced have never been able to do. So Calzaghe doesn't know what it's like to fight someone so skilled.

It's going to be ring savvy and intelligence versus workrate, hand speed, and Calzaghe's overall awkward style.

I don't think that his chin has been truely tested.

I think that Calzaghe depends alot on his hand speed and high work rate ... he has fast twitch reflex muscles and can react very quickly ... I don't think keeping his hands low will make a difference.

My take on Calzaghe's weakness is him squaring up to his opponents and leaving himself open for flush shots ... his footwork, although he has good foot speed, isn't all that good ...

The angles he throws his punches can get him caught as well because as he holds his hands down when he swings - his punches start off straight and end looping.

Actually Calzaghe has fought over half of his career fights outside Wales.

Do you think that there's a certain distance that a fighter must travel from his home city before crowds become hostile?

You seem to be under the impression that Calzaghe was in front of hometown, non-hostile crowds when he fought Woodhall in Sheffield, Reid in Newcastle or Eubank in Sheffield. In reality that's a far more hostile environment for a Welsh fighter than anything Vegas can come up with.

I didn't see the Woodhall fight. Of the others the Reid fight may have been a pro Reid crowd but I'm not sure I'd call it wildly hostile. But the Veit fight? German audiences are about the quietest I've ever seen. I've heard more noise at a shuffleboard tournament in a senior citizen's retirement community. You can hear individual coughing in the background.

But as I said to this one intangible. Maybe, maybe not. IMO Calzaghe is of such good quality that you have to scratch the surface to find major flaws.

did you see some of the upercuts he took from kessler, they would have taken most boxers heads off.

and lacy was meant to be the mini tyson, yet calzaghes response after feeling his power "he can't punch for ****".

i would say his chin has been tested, and that's just in the last few fights.

Guys just to settle the height arguement.

Ive met Joe Calzaghe several times and he's a shade taller than I am, and im 6ft dead.

I'd say he was 6ft1 or a shade under.

He's definatly taller than 6ft, the only people on here who disagree are the people who see the 5ft11.5 on boxrec - which is clearly wrong.

The more I think about the fight, the more I think Calzaghe will win, but I think Hopkins is going to give a good effort. It won't be a total blow out.

Calzaghe has a sturdy chin but I don't believe that he won't get involved. Taylor looked like a man possessed after getting cut on the head in that fifth round in July 05, Tarver went right into a shot that dropped him in the round he predicted he would stop Hops (5th round) and could never forget about that in the rest of the fight, Wright was effected by the headbutt in the third... After seeing Calzaghe going at it like a raging bull in the 2nd against Mitchell and against Salem ( got cut in that round) and the way he was after the fourth against Bika ( another cut) - how can he not get involved? B'sides, Calzaghe has been after Hopkins since God knows when, and he can't pretend he's not there while Hopkins does what we all know he'll do.

Who's he fought? A bunch of tomato cans along with one hype job and two decent fighters, right?

Calzaghe fans keep posting on this board how BHop's resume isn't "legendary" because Trinidad was above his PRIME weight, as was DLH, and Wright. Also, they claim that Tarver is overrated. Then, they claim BHop is overrated...

However, they will not allow someone to say that BHop is past his prime and 43 (as well as 15 lbs. above his PRIME weight), therefore if Calzaghe wins, it won't mean much....

See what I mean??? You can't have it both ways. If BHop's wins mean nothing, then if Calzaghe beats an "overrated" "above his prime weight" "past his prime" fighter, it also doesn't mean anything...

According to box rec Cal's 5 foot 11 1/2.. so Box rec's wrong or the guy who said Cal's 6 foot 1".

You keep forgetting Hopkins has height and reach, so if Cal tries to fight on the out side, he's out reached.
    Hopkins, 6 foot 1, 75 inch reach.
    Cal 5 foot 11 1/2 73 inch reach.
Hopkins has 3 1/2 inches total reach.

He is also at a masssssssssssive handspeed disadvantage so the 2" reach advantage means nothing. :good
