I think American boxers tend to stay boxing past their peaks and taking punishment which effects their longterm health wheras in Britain the BBBofC have tighter restrictions on allowing British boxers to continue past their best plus British boxers tend to retire much earlier then American boxers. Having said that some American Boxers are very articulate and fast like Kevin Johnson. [YT]9Z3vQZfnnyY[/YT]
fair enough. but i never doubted the higher number of American HOF's compared to the UK considering the size difference. that's not in question here... but when it comes to being punch drunk, i really can't think of one British fighter that fought at the highest level slurring their words. but i can think of a lot of American fighters. can you think of one Brit? because i'm really racking my brains here and can't come up with anything.
All depends on who you fought and for how long .. Take Toney for example as opposed to Calazghe Toney had over 80 pro fights from middleweight to heavy and fought some punchers while Joe only had 46 pro fights and retired once he started slipping .
Lennox Harrison (scott) Burns Naz Eubank Benn Froch Groves Cleverly Rees Bellew Reid Turpin Fitzsimmons and so on and so on... all get knocked out with one punch and can't take punishment? no they don't. :-(
Lennox was one punch KOed twice. Cleverly doesn't have a Chin. Neither did Hamed. Benn was Chinny. Geez that list is awful.
It's got nothing to do with boxing, it's the different cultures that place different values on being articulate or not. Talking is just a skill that's developed like anything else, if you're at a higher level then you won't notice the deterioration as much. If a young fighter sounds punch drunk then that's because he simply isn't a good talker. If you talk with a British accent you're always going to sound more intelligent and articulate than you actually are anyway. If you talk with a southern drawl then nobody is going to think that you're Einstein.
i think its because of the competition your put against in the usa. a journeymen from the u.s. can be a champ in the uk. one of those common belts they have and make a decent living. most likely want take the type of punishment a fighter from the u.s will take because of the vastly different level of opposition they will be facing in the uk. thus at the end of there career they still have all there marbles. thats what i think !
