Does Fury get any credit for last night?

Deserves credit for making a really easy fight incredibly difficult. It's impressive how **** he manages to look at times.

Well, if you look at it that way, I suppose you can give him some credit. Can't believe how undedicated and lazy he is though. This performance ain't gonna cut it against top 10 heavies.

 

Of course he gets some credit, a fighter that wins honestly deserves his due for it.

Was his stock raised from the performance? That's a different question, and I'd say no. Hopefully he uses it as a rust-shaking opportunity and buckles down to focus on improving as a fighter going forward.

Exactly, you and iron Chin hit the nail on the hammer. Fury's been an enigma to me, he's got some great tools, shows flashes, and a lot of past champs had inconsistent starts to their careers. But last night showed 1. his chin problem is real; he knew Abell could bang going in and he still got buzzed and 2. he simply lacks the professionalism to be a dominant champ. His tools and resume make him a top 5 HW for now, there's only a couple HW contenders I'd actually pick to be the favorite to beat him, but there's a bunch that could potentially beat him even if they wouldn't be favored (Wilder, Charr, Perez etc), and its only a matter of time before someone beats him.

 

A guy who talks a lot of smack, ducks a world title elimination bout, comes into his last fight grossly out of shape against a journeyman opponent, then brings up excuses as to why he was out of shape?

That's exactly the opposite of what this division needs.

What we need are serious contenders who put their blood, sweat and tears into the sport and take it seriously. Contenders who don't whine about boxing politics, who instead thirst after elimination bouts. Contenders that are in shape each and every time, even against journeyman opposition. Determination, consistency, professionalism are key.
