Lewis > Bowe whilst with Steward

Its a totally different mindset fighting in the ring as a pro to that of trying to score points in an Olympic match.

Go youtube the Olympic final fight and you'll see Bowe dominated Lewis in the first round and then got stunned very early in the 2nd round.
Bowe was stunned but nowhere near to being stopped. In the amatuers however, a referee often stops a fight without allowing a fighter a chance to clear the cobwebs.
That fight would have never been stopped at the pro level, not even close.
Add to that that Bowe under the tutelege of Eddie Futch had grown into a much better fighter while Lewis was still basically the same fighter, a paw and right hammer fighter.

Bowe had dominated Lewis in that Olympic final match right to the time of stoppage, so I know he was the better boxer then. Then march to the point where Bowe dumps the title in the garbage???
Lewis would be facing a much improved fighter.

Note also the respective trainers for both fighters at the time.
Eddie Futch was a mastermind at devising and having his fighter implement a gameplan.
Imo, its Eddie Futch's gameplan that got Holyfield beat that first fight.
Futch had Bowe sit back patient and let Holyfield come to him.
This particular gameplan saved Bowe alot of energy.


Now that Bowe vs the polished cautious Lennox that faced Holyfield is a much better matchup. The skillset still favors Bowe though imo. Bowe could fight both on the outside and inside better than Lewis.

You do know that Vitali was scheduled to fight on the undercard you moron, so what's this bs about Vitali not having a training camp.

And second to that point, Lewis and Vitali were scheduled to fight in December and all they did was speed the process up when Kirk Johnson became injured.

And lastly, Sanders kicked Wlad's ass not long before this fight took place which is why he never got a shoot to fight Lewis.

And lastly, of the two brother's Vitali was the harder of the two to fight, at least at that time.

Eddie Futch told manny Steward years later taht it was all his doing, he didnt want Bowe to fight Lewis becaise he thought Lewis was too good and would definitley beat Bowe.

 

Not sure about that, bows was in good form at the time but I think losing to Lewis in the amateur s made him think, big bloke , already smashed me once ,an I throw my belt in the bin, lewis wins late stoppage. Lewis never on the juice either

This is pretty much how I remember it as well--this was about money.

 

One thing I see not mentioned when this comes up about what happened in the amats compared to what happened in the pros---a guy that beat both Bowe and LL in the Amats--Jorge Luis González. I think Bowe KO'd him in 6.
I think LL beat him as an amat as well.

 

That guys was a scrub in the pros ..And watching that LL Bowe fight it looked like Bowe had the better inside game ..Too bad we were denied that fight in the pros
