When it comes to talent, I don't think the US is lacking at all. The country has always been a powerhouse of raw boxing potential. When it comes to infrastructure, the US is falling into oblivion. There are no strong amateur programs. Kids pick up a football or a basketball before a pair of gloves. There are hardly any gyms. Top tier talents will continue to be produced, but they will be fewer and fewer. The future of boxing will lie wherever there is a combination of strong amateur programs and poor living conditions. Right now that is Cuba, Eastern Europe, and Russia. These guys are doing it right from a young age, and turning pro is now a common trend. Young kids in Cuba hear about Rigo destroying Donaire. Kids in Kazakstan watch Golovkin steamroll opponents from around the world. Kids in Ukraine see the Klitschko's fight in a soccer stadium. I feel like we've only seen the beginning. The most interesting possibility in the future is China. What does their am program look like? Is the government pouring money into it? Is boxing becoming popular there? I've honestly only seen a few Chinese fighters and they didn't look anything special. Their numbers are too large to not produce something great though. What do you think, ESB?
