Lets be real though. Andre Ward rarely leaves California. It may not be Oakland, but he is staying in his home state for almost all his fights. Its really not overblown.

10 of his last 11 fights have been in California

He needs to step outside his comfort zone.

Ward can still be huge draw, and if you put him in the ring with other guys who are considered draws on their own, Ward magnifies that big time. Ward's drawing power will only show up when he starts fighting guys who are considered draws on their own. Ward's draw is based on how good he is. Its not his style, its not his personality, its his skill.

Golovkin vs B fighter will do better than Ward vs B fighter. But when you put Golovkin in with Ward, there is no B side to that fight. Each fighter is an equal draw, because everybody wants to see Golovkin fight somebody THAT GOOD.

If Froch fights Andre Ward in England, they will pack any place over there. You can say Froch is the draw, because they are his fans. BUT, Ward will be an equal draw in that fight because those fans will want to see Froch fight somebody THAT GOOD.

Andre Ward's skill is a HUGE draw in those situations.

He does need a reality check though. Why would these guys travel to California to take a damaging L on their record for the amount of money his fights are going to bring in? Its just not good business. Ward needs to find a way to make it good business for everybody to get these fights made. Ward can still be a ppv star, but he is going to need to make adjustments.

Chavez/Ward ........ Golovkin/Ward.......... Stevens/Ward could all land him the biggest payday of his career. But he is going to have to make it make sense for everybody.

Hard for me to see where he's been done wrong by. I know Andre wants more say over who he fights, but he's been secured paydays well above the ratings he delivers, was the only fighter with hometown advantage in all his Super 6 fights, and has been able to do most of it at home with referees that let him do what he wants.

Fighters move in weight to fight him, he doesn't change weights. He was able to hire Conte and avoid testing while avoiding widespread questioning or criticism about potential PED use.

That doesn't sound like a fighter who's really been mispromoted, unless there's been financial shenanigans behind the scenes or something.

It was an accomplishment just to get GGG on HBO. Older foreign fighters without an easy-to-sell-to U.S. fanbase and a fringe promoter typically only got brought in on HBO to be opponents for the other guy, only to wind up getting robbed or blackballed if they upset the apple cart. Look at Sergio's early HBO career, Pirog, and Kotelnik. I can't remember the last time someone that profile came in with a fair shot to be a headliner themselves.

The time has definitely come to lobby for a bigger part of the fight budget, though. GGG's currently the biggest bargain in the sport at his current purse levels. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he cleared more from his yearly Monaco fights than he makes per fight at HBO right now.

    Answer these questions in order:

    1. Which of these fighter in the Super Six never traveled to ONE their own opponents - Froch, Kessler, Abraham, Dirrell, Taylor or Ward. Watch the first video of Showtime's Super Six Fight Camp 360- the other promoters wanted Ward thrown out because Gooseen was refusing to have Ward travel. His last fight may have not been in Jokeland but it was still in Califonia. That would be like Froch refusing to leave Nottinghamshire.

    2. Who are bigger ticket sellers in their own countries, the guys you mentioned- Klitschko's, Froch, Mayweather, Pascal, Stevenson or Ward in the US? The fact he is P4P number 2 is irrelevant in the eyes of casual fans- these guys are major celebs in their own countries- Ward is little known.

    3. I didn't say anything negative about the Dawson fight. It was a magnificent performance. My question was, which you didn't answer was- if Dawson, rather than dropping down a weight, said to Ward, let's fight at 175, in my hometown, and I get a bigger share of the pie- would Ward have accepted that fight? I.e. would he have bent over backwards like Dawson did for him?

    4. If the 'Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion of the World' Andre Ward really wants to fight Golovkin, who not take a page out of 'Undisputed Middleweight Champion of the World' Sergio Martinez's offer to a guy a weight class down Miguel Cotto.

You see Martinez knows that Cotto has a bigger following, sells more tickets and attracts more viewers- so Cotto is getting a bigger payday. He isn't requesting Cotto come to Argentina, he's fighting in a hot spot for Cotto rapid fan base. Martinez realized he's not a bigger name than Chavez Jr, even if he's a better fighter and he got a bigger part of the pie in a location of Chavez Jr choosing- if he wants to rematch Froch, why not do that?

The answer is because Ward is not willing to make comprises to make big fights happen and expects his opponents to bend over backwards for him. He's may be as good as Mayweather, but he isn't the ticket seller Mayweather is- but seems to think he can negotiate fights from a Mayweather type pedestal.

Great post- Sergio Martinez is a pound for pound fighter but knows he's not a bigger name than Chavez Jr and Cotto- to get those big fights, he is not getting a bigger payday and will have to met some off his opponents demands. Much like the comprises Martinez is willing to make to fight Mayweather- such as drop 10lbs and have a hydration clause.

Ward does not seem to be willing to do this and thinks he's as big a draw as Mayweather or Pacquiao.

Not sure what Ward's issue is either.

If you watch the 1st episode of fight camp 360 on Showtime for the Super Six, Ward was almost thrown out of the tournament as his promoter didn't want him to travel in any of the 1st stages of the fights rather than him having to travel to some of the imposing cauldron's of his opponents own back yards. Yet Gooseen managed to blag Ward staying in. I'd call that good promoting.

It needs context in order to be understood.

E-Rod came out with a request for testing at the kick-off fight presser, after negotiations were over. Ward said E-Rod never made such a request during negotiations therefore no testing. That's about it.

Do a search on Google for the article 'Why is Andre Ward so Testy About Testing?'. It's an interesting read.

    1. Ward, but everything was agreed in contract and the last fight was not in Oakland. I'll give you this. But there really isn't anything to cry about.

Kessler took the fight IN OAKLAND because they thought Ward was GREEN and he could bully him easily and cruise to an easy win. But of course, Ward proved to be a much much better fighter than they thought he was and Ward owned him up.

    2. Please rofl, Adonis Stevenson/Pascal are not "Huge stars" in Canada. You know how I know? I LIVE here. :rofl. Ward is a bigger star in California than these two clowns are in Canada.

Those two are only known in MONTREAL.

No other provinces give a **** about them.

    3. Ward would have went to 175 later on and taken the Dawson fight. He probably would not have taken the fight at that moment @ 75 but why would he? Dawson called him out. Ward was still beating big tough men in his division.

    4. The thing is, GOLOVKIN is calling Ward out. :rofl and calling all the 168 champions out. He's backpeddling on it now and saying he isn't ready for Ward.

If GGG wants to call out all 154>168 fighters, go to that weight class of the fighter they want to fight. That is my point.

If you don't want to, keep their names out of your mouth. Don't call out all the champions of those weight classes and expect all of them to go to cater to your demands and drop/rise to 160. It's the Coward's thing to do.

    5. How exactly does GGG sell more tickets/have a bigger following? The dude's paydays are low as **** compared to a lot of fighters in HBO/Showtime. If anything, he should abide by all Ward's demands. How did the GGG/Adama fight do?

Ward is the p4p better fighter by a landslide
Ward's resume is much much better
Ward's name is probably bigger than Golovkin's
Golovkin isn't as big of a name as you think he is.
Ward made 2.1 million while GGG made 400k

    6. You speak as if Ward isn't a big ticket seller. But neither is GGG, not even close. Ward has all the advantages over him in the negotiation tables. That's just how it is.

They didn't say he's not ready for Ward, they said they have decided to focus on 160.

You're so full of ****

You live here yet you refer to Montreal as a province by using "no other provinces"?!??

    They're huge in QC.

Go to Joe Schmoe's house anywhere in QC and mention Stevenson or Pascal. They'll know exactly who you're talking about. Do the same in Cali for Ward - LOL. Boxing is only second to hockey in QC... boxing takes a back seat to a lot of **** in Cali. Stevenson is likely on Tomas Plekanec's level in QC households which says a LOT.

Again, you're so full of ****

Seriously you're so full of **** LOL.

When did I refer to Montreal as a Province you ******? I'm just saying no other province other than Q cares about them.

"Huge stars in their own country"

    BULL****.

I actually went to QC a while back, their star power is dim at best.

And let's not even talk about the other major cities in Toronto, V, even Edmonton (A known boxing province) don't give a flying fuk about those two. Actually I'll go as far as to say no one outside of QC even knows of them.

Do you even live here son?

    :rofl

"Boxing only takes a backseat to HOCKEY"

    ARE YOU A DUMBASS? ROFL

Canadian football IS MUCH BIGGER than BOXING.

The Alouettes are actually widely popular and a winning team.
