Where do you guys focus your eyes when your sparring or throwing punches?

When I'm angling up with an opponent, I try to keep my focus dead center so I can watch for either of his shoulders to move. It doesn't always work well if the fighter has particularly broad shoulders cause I can't see enough movement before getting hit by the long arms.

I notice this focus being the worst case when using head/body movement to weave under a left hook, I step in for the right hook to the body but I'm looking down and to the right which leaves me blind to the left side.

  2. I focus on the centre of the chest. You can see the chest twitch when punches are about to be thrown and your peripheral vision allows you to at the same time see his gloves, face etc.

But it does come down to what works best for you, and I know some guys focus on places other than the central chest area.

My thought is this...When you drive down the highway, do you focus in a particular place or on a particular place? Or do you see everything?

I don't tend to focus. I sit back and take in everything.

    Their feet.

That's only half a joke. When I first come out, if I see someone has a poor stance or bad footwork, I will try to take advantage of it.

Chest, arms, shoulders? No, you gotta see everything. Find a spot where you can see him all the way from his head down to his feet.

Haha! I've often thought wouldn't it be funny if one boxer tries to make the other feel uncomfortable in the ring.. Kinda ala broner vs maidana
