I thought the Marcus McDonnell stopped Wood after the onslaught from McDonnell, but he gave him a 2nd chance before the eventual stoppage

Did the Ref act differently in light of Howard Foster's stoppage of Groves?

    Yes i believe so..

I had to laugh when Jim Watt went (paraphrasing a lil) ''his head was being rolled back by the punches it should of been stopped earlier''.

It's tough for these ref's now because they can't win it has to be a perfectly timed stoppage always now. No room for error otherwise they get demoted or vilified either way.

As i mentioned last night the ref's need to be briefed and fighters as well on whether world title fights should be ref'd differently to other fights in terms of punishment of a fighter. There seems to be a unwritten rule that world title fights mean fighters should be allowed to go out on shield even more then a normal British title fight etc.

I grew up watching ref's call ''show me something..'' ''show me something or i'm gonna stop it''. In rounds and between rounds. Noticed this is as frequent now.

People are right to be angry when you see stupid stoppages like the Ovil vs Enzo one but in general put yourself in place of the ref and accept the blame for a fighter being put in a box or in a wheelchair. I saw a lad once get sparked badly and oxygen needed the referee went to touch the fighter and the trainer grabbed his arm and threw it out of the way with anger he rollocked the ref as well (rightly so in this case).

Last night the fight should have been stopped when he broke them up and let McDonell come back in for another little flurry but in the heat of the moment ref's are going to make split decision calls some right some wrong.
