Thought Ricky was poor tonight but also think Crawford beats any version of Ricky Burns.

    Good post.

What he's forgetting is that Crawford came all the way to Scotland infront of a 99.9% Pro Burns Crowd and schooled him, you've got to be very good to do that.

This fight was all about levels and Crawford was clearly a level above Burns.

Ricky was lucky to come away with victory against Gonzalez after getting outboxed in 7 of the 9 rds, he plain lost to Beltran and he lost by an even wider margin tonight.

I highly doubt Ricky will be World Champion again, he's just not a Top 5 Lightweight and would lose just as big to the other champs Miguel Vasquez and Richard Abril although Omar Figueroa could be a closer fight due to his relative lack of experience.

    Two weight World Champ ?

I like Ricky but lets not get carried away, Ricky was WBO Champ.
He beat Martinez, who was heavy handed but not that skilled, and had wins over Mitchell and katsidis.
At what point in the fight did ricky open up and make Crawford earn his win ?
We were lead to believe that crawford was a slick counter puncher who was going to expose Burns, all i seen was somebody who was busier than a very lazy burns, who managed to back Burns up 3 or 4 times.
I had it 9-3 Crawford, purely on activity, i must have missed the schooling.

Yes Burn's is a two weight world champion...

I am not getting carried away, I think there is much more to come from Crawford, he was not overly exciting but did a professional job.

reminds me a little of when Bradley came over and beat Witter and he has gone on to do OK for himself.

It was Crawford's first world title fight, away from home and he did nothing wrong... just kept winning round after round.

That was Burn's 10th world title fight? and Crawford's first and I ask you who looked like the experienced world champion?

What did you expect from Crawford?

Totally agree Barry,Burns has had a great run achieving far more than most ever expected,he time has now past.Crawford very very good but not a top elite performer.Quite a poor fight. Iam sure Burns has a couple more good pay days if not actual performances in him.

And you are right with your previous comment, this wasn't a different Ricky Burns than what we have seen before (despite Watt banging on about the jaw), he was just in with a better fighter, simple as that. Burns is no scrub, he's a good fighter, but Crawford is just a level or two above, as some of us have been saying all along. Plus Crawford is 26, fighting away from home for the first time, in a very hostile environment, in his fist 12 rounder, against a good, much more experienced opponent and he did the business, the pundits were a joke saying he wasn't as good as they expected, especially when these were the same guys picking Burns to win.

Poor night for Burns. He looked gun shy to me.

Maybe the Crolla fight might happen now.

Ricky's decline hasn't exactly been fast. He's looked progressively worse each time he's fought over the last 10 months. He's was a fairly weak champ to begin with, he'll never see those heights again. Retirement looms once he's had chance to take it all in.

    Witter the quitter ?

Burns was awful, id of expected a potential champion fighting away from home to go for the kill and take any element of surprise out of the equation.
Crawford was a clear winner in a fcukin awful World title fight.
Burns was unwilling to engage, yet crawford wouldn't step forward and go for the kill.

Ricky is very lucky not to have 3 losses on the spin.

He's also taken a lot of punishment in his last 3 fights.

I agree it's all over for Ricky, if someone in his team actually cared about him they would suggest possible retirement as no point Ricky risking his health and taking another beating.

He's had a very good career and over achieved massively in becoming a two weight world champion so he can hold his head up high and retire on his own terms rather then being forced to after another loss or two.

Which 3 fights were they ?
Ricky never shifted any punishment tonight, he was simply outworked by the busier man.
