Or maybe he stepped up a level in terms of his opponents and he just wasn't good enough.

Ricky is a top fella and has a lot to be proud of, but to me he has lost something he won't get back, he looked not mentally in the right place, lacked the hunger and desire and tbh i don't no if he will ever get back to world level, maybe he will time will tell but i have my doubts we will ever see the Burns that smashed Mitchell ever again.

Huge ricky fan 14th time seeing him tonight I have no problem someone getting beat giving there all but tonight I felt like ricky had no spark no guts which is unlike ricky a champion should be willing to go out on there shield give there all which sadly ricky showed nothing of the sort

Would anyone be interested in seeing Burns vs Mitchell 2? I'm curious to see if Ricky is still as good as he was in the first fight, after all he looked in his absolute prime and has had 3 hard fights since then. If he is able to beat Mitchell solidly again then it will be a good way to bounce back and also give him a confidence boost that he's not lost it.

Would be awful to not have Ricky bounce back and keep putting on these great nights in Glasgow, I'd also love the chance to follow him to a fight in the states and so I think the next fight is an important one and shouldn't be anything too ambitious.

Didn't like his mental state all night....... even looked in a daze when flower of Scotland was playing
like he had already quit .....didn't want to be there :-(

his confidence is gone really sad to see

hope he can bounce back mentally ?

    its a tough game

Excellent post. Was actually thinking this during the fight and if he did fight Mitchell again we could gauge if he still has anything left and probably will give himself either a reality check or a boost of confidence depending on the outcome.
I personally think hes a shadow of his former self and although he will never be a great he could be relied on as a solid, reliable and come forward and nay scared to engage but in the last 3 fights these qualities have been lacking with too much holding and covering which looks like a confidence thing.
Top kid and one of the nicest in boxing but cant see him getting his old mojo back and maybe needs to take a backward step or two to rebuild.
His management has been saying hes too good for this name and that name when in reality there must be a few doubts, especially with the punters.

Very good post, I'm impressed with that. Yeah Burns is a cracking guy who has been a credit to British and Scottish boxing. Not sure where to go from here, Burns has been in a lot of hard fights which will eventually take its toll. If he gets another title shot he should take it, cause you don't get many chances in boxing especially when you become the challenger again. Even though he lost I just want to say well done Ricky Burns, top man, as honest as they come.

It was yet another performance that unfortunately showed the limitations that Ricky has, he has had a great career considering he lacks natural ability. The thing that disappointed me most was his apparent lack of hunger, even late on when he was clearly well behind, he never tried to force fight, which was shocking on his part. Maybe after Beltran beat him easy and he got the decision he thought all he had to do was complete 12 rounds and he would get awarded the fight
