Why not have a weigh in IMMEDIATELY before stepping into the ring?

That way if someone wants to drain, they pay the price. It removes the danger that same day weigh ins were originally thought to produce due to an ~8 hour rehydration period.

Boxers enter the ring at a healthy, reasonable, hydrated weight.

    Why can't this be implemented?

I think it would be better. The only issue I can think of is that once it is implemented, you would have people losing their belts because they cant make the weight anymore, atleast on the same day (they wouldn't want to fight dehydrated).

Because fighters not making weight can get fights cancelled
Lots of money involved in the business of boxing and this day before weigh in is to mainly protect the invested sides

What would happen if a fighter is over weight? Doesn't make sense.

And those that drain to make weight wont be able to rehydrate.

better solution would be to just make fighters fight in the weightclass that they are naturaly in and not drain down to a weight class to have an advantage. its all on the fighters. they chose to put their bodies through that bs to get a leg up.

How is too much made of this issue? If you are a welterweight for example and come into the fight weighing 170 that is ok? That is how fighters get hurt and they hurt themselves in the long wrong draining their body.

If you are a 170 pound fighter then fight at that weight instead of draining yourself so you can fight somebody 30 pounds lighter than you.

then they shouldnt be draining in the first place. fight in the weight class your body should be at and nit the one you have to cut water to make.

A weigh in immediately before the fight is not a good idea. It's very unlikely that fighters will be able to weigh on the specific weight limit every time while also having a reasonably big meal before (about 5 hours before) fighting.

If we really want better weigh ins the most likely options are either having 2 weigh ins (day before and day off), or the morning of the fight.

    File it under "tough ****".
They should be fighting at a higher weight class then.

The point of this idea is that you need to be FED, HYDRATED, and not have cut too much before the fight. Essentially everyone would move up a weight class.

Boxing is becoming a competition of who can cut the most and rehydrate the most. I don't give a **** how much a guy can rehydrate. What a ****ing talent that is, drinking 2 gallons of water and slamming peanut butter sandwiches all day.

I want to see boxing as it was meant to be, and this is a good solution.
